Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Jul 14, 2009 A slightly cloudy golden pour with a two finger sized gold head. A nice aroma of yeast, hops, floral notes, fruit. First sip offers more funkiness than expected. There is some sweet peach which morphs into grain in the same sip. Peppery spice, mild malt, and light sourness. This is a very nice and light summer drink. The alcohol does not overpower which is true to the original style. It is very refreshing and interesting. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA May 18, 2009 @CBC-on tap-pours a foamy off white head and hazy amber color. Aroma is funk, light malt. Taste is funk, light malt, tart fruit, yeast. Enjoyable for one.
Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA May 10, 2009 i’d like to think that the people at new belgium named this afer my nephew, but if they had they probably would have called it insane 5 year old that likes to throw things at the groin of uncles, so this is probably not in reference to the little punk. a wee bit dark, smells like strawberry and spice, and yeasty esters. christwagons, this tastes like berry jam. not cloying, but boy howdy is this sucker sweet. strong honey notes keep coming. jelly, jam, whatever makes preserves, is there a difference? need to google that at some point. strawberry, cranberry, cherry, all sorts of berries except snozz. sweet.

good to know. BeerandBlues2 (3190), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jan 7, 2009 Draught at brewery. Pours hazy dark yellow with an average, frothy, white head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (hay, straw), light hops (flowers, grass), average yeast (earth) with notes of grapes and faint cranberry. Light bodied, spicy texture, average carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, light sweetness and bitterness, moderate acidity. I would not have known to be on the lookout for cranberries except that I was told they were there. They were but very faint. Beaver (587), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Jan 7, 2009 From the growler. Pours a hazy dark golden orange with a thin white head that quickly goes to a thin collar.
The aroma is banana, spices (clove), lemon and some earthy yeast.
The flavor is sweet acidic and slightly tart citric fruits with some light banana and clove spice. Some musty yeast comes out as it warms. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth with low carbonation.
Overall, a nice saison. It’s a little too much on the sweet and fruity side - more funk would be good.
JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Dec 30, 2008 Sampled from a growler sent by a dear friend. Thanks, Jeff!!! Lustrous pour, gleaming golden body with just a hint of the cran color in there. Lively carbonation. Nose is pert and spicy with some berries, and a touch too much diacetyl alas. The body is fairly full, with soft citrus notes playing with spicy yeast, cranberry, and a mild grassiness in the finish. A bit too chewy to be a top-notch saison but a real pleasure nonetheless. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Dec 20, 2008 On tap at the brewery. Poured a semi-hazy yellow color with a moderate white head that left good lacing. Aroma of light wheat, a moderate funky barnyard yeastiness, and some fruit, including cranberry, orange, and some other citrus. Moderately dry, grainy entry with some hints of wheat and a lightly tart fruitiness, namely cranberry and soft lemon, lead into a light yeastiness with a bit of funk. Finishes with some light wheat and a touch of fruit. Nice carbonation, but a tad watery and not as dry as I would prefer. Decent start, I would just continue to tweak it more. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Dec 11, 2008 Growler from pepsican. Poured a slightly hazy medium orange color with a white head. The aroma was of sweet corn, subdued lemon, and mixed cereal grains. Medium bodied and semi-sweet. Lemon and sweet corn came out again in the flavor along with plenty of fresh cereal grain in the finish and a hint of butter. Eh.
