Commercial Description:
The newest offering in New Belgium’s Lips of Faith Program, Dandelion Ale, was inspired by the great hop shortage of 2008. Dandelion greens have a natural bittering effect much like hops. Reveling in the freedom of the Belgian brewing tradition, we thought this ubiquitous weed would make an interesting addition to a traditionally hopped beer. The result is a strong blond ale brewed with toasted pilsener malt, flavored with fresh picked dandelion greens and grains of paradise. Dandelion Ale is hazy and light gold in color with peachy aroma and a Belgian yeast strain. It has a unique bitterness, subtle maltiness and a creamy mouthfeel.

Foggy light orange pour. High floral aroma. Very sweet and lots of citrus. Sweet chalky taste that sits in the cheeks. Citrus flavor is present on the finish with the floral notes taking a large seat in the center of the flavor. Not all weeds sit well in a beer but this one pleases me.

On tap @ NB. Pours a dark gold with small white head. Sweet smelling nose with light fruit. Flavor is syrup sweet with hints of honey, malt and fruit. Body is medium with a thicker texture due to the added candy syrup. Interesting brew, glad to have tried it.

Draft at OBriens. Bright orange hue with zero head, cloudy. Nose is pears, honey, light fruits, bubblegum, and light toast. Flavor is surprisingly dominated by sweet bubblegum tones, hints of pears and honey, floral notes, sweet pilsner malt finish. Light-medium body, thin texture, mild carbonation. Interesting but cloyingly sweet, the lack of hops is not a huge issue here, good for a sample.

Tap @ EcoBrew Fest - Pours a dk yellow with a medium white head...aroma is belgian yeast and bubble gum, a bit floral from the spice and fruit...flavour is similar, nicely balanced maltiness that balanced well with the alcohol...a little pepper on the finish and it drank pretty nicely...

On tap at Papago. Pours cloudy yellow with a thin white head. The nose is bubblegum, yeast and malt. The taste is spicy yeast, malt and a fruity finish. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Kinda boring, but not too bad.

Crystal clear yellow color with a white head. Smells of vegetables and some floral, orange and grass. Taste is slightly sweet. Coats the mouth well and is delightful to drink.
