Commercial Description:
For many years we’ve celebrated Valentine’s Day at New Belgium Brewing by creating a special small batch beer for our family and friends. These beers tend to be a little funky, fruitful and straight from the heart. This year we decided to share the love. New Belgium Brewing’s Dark Kriek is a limited edition Belgian kriek or cherry beer. Much darker than a traditional kriek with a dash of sour cherry up front, our Dark Kriek is actually a blend of two beers. We start with a light, dry, tannic beer aged two years in oak barrels and combine this with a heavier, dark ale and cherries to create one smooth cherry blast of love.

Bomber, pours a dark cherry color. Smells berry sour and coca cola. Smooth cherry taste with a nice sour taste compliment. I liked this so did joshdrinksbeer.

Crushed with JakeBra and CarytheDude. Pretty impressed with this one. Red pour with some head. Sour cherry aroma with some darkish malt. Flavor is sour, dark cherries, the sourness is a highlight. Mouthfeel is nice. Really really awesome.

Bottle. Pours clear reddish brown with minimal head. Nose is mostly oak- tart cherries show up more in the taste.

FRO throwdown: Chocolate covered cherries in the nose. Flavor is mildly sour with more chocolate and cherries. A bit heavy but otherwise good stuff.

Bottle from the Otown throwdown. darkguardian and solan hooked it up!! Red pour. Funky, sour nose with berries and oak with some wet earth. Flavor is sour cherries but has some sweetness which was surprising. Woody notes are nice. Easy drinking.

C&PLYFOTD: Bottle, courtesy darkguardian and SoLan. Reddish pour, filmy lacing. Funky nose, some cherries and raspberries, slight woodsy tones. Smooth tart flavors, dry and full of cherries and raspberry. Drinkable, nice and good, feels like a slightly more complex Lindemann’s Framboise. Which isn’t a bad thing.

Bottle: Auburn with a thin beige head. Aroma is dry, husky and bready. Light fruity presence. Taste has some sours and tartness with a underlying breadiness. Sort of a dry bready, fruity, light amount of sweet and tart. Not bad, but certainly not worth the price of $10/bomber.

Sampled at C&P Otown Throwdown, big thanks to SoLan! Pours a nice reddish brown. Slightly sour tart cherry funk aroma. Taste is tart cherry, dark fruit, malt and some barrel notes. Nice beer.
