Deep dark brown with a nice ecru head that leaves impressive lacing. Aroma is bruised apples, banana pith, clove, pepper, vanilla, and a hint of bubblegum. Great smell. Taste is dark wheat bread crust with an even banana sweetness and accents of apple and spices. I would have guessed there was much less alcohol in this beer. Really delicious and drinkable. Up there with La Folie as one of the very best NB beers. ajm (967), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 24, 2009 Tap at Pap. This is quite something! Aroma is banana and clove-laden as promised, with touches of dark fruit like a quad. Mouthfeel is thick and viscous. Flavor is melty, fruity, more banana and almost a caramel quality to the finish, which is quite short. As interesting a wheat beer as I have ever had. yeastmode (2), California, USA does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 10, 2009 Had it on tap at stone bistro. Strong banana aroma. Taste had a lot of spice, but was also very sweet. Great beer for a drink in the afternoon BgThang (118), Texas, USA

Best way to describe it is a weizenbock with a little sourness to it. This would do really well aged 6 months ina bottle. Has great potenial. FlacoAlto (2482), Tucson, Arizona, USA

This beer arrives from the tap a fairly dark color (even for a Dunkel Weizen), it is a bit hazy and has a murky brown color. The head is a pretty thin wisp that is a pale, tan color. The aroma has lots of bubblegum notes to it as well as some banana notes and a backdrop of clove. This smells like a hearty banana bread, and is quite nice. There is also a touch of tart, wheat aromatics here as well.
The flavor has a light tartness to it that is balanced by a chewy malt character that is sweet, but more in a bread / caramelized malt way than a simple sugar sweetness. This is nice and chewy, it is not quite light enough to be a session beer, but I would be happy to drink a couple of these in an afternoon. This is a great beer to pair with food as the mat keeps the beer going strong even with he savory soup I am enjoying right now. There is a nice toasted malt character here (not really roasted though) with lots of chewy, bread like notes. The traditional Weizen flavors of clove and banana are nicely noticeable and there is a bit of spicy pepper to this beer as well.
This is just a fantastic example of a Dunkel Weizen. This has easily exceeded my expectations of this beer and I will be happy to drink this a couple more times before it leaves my local. HopheadHans (755), Bay Area, California, USA

Pours with a dark color and a medium head. The aromas are classic wheat with banana, cloves and spices. In addition there is a very strong malt backbone. Great Flavors of cloves, bubblegum and banana bread. Not cloying at all but with a bit of alcohol burn that actually makes it more interesting. I really enjoyed this beer. arrogantb (715), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 23, 2009 On-tap at the Falling Rock, $6 per pint. Listed as a Lips of Faith Mattie’s Dunkel Weisse. Nice dark brown color with a good spicy clove smell. It had a delicious flavor, wheat, smoke, clove, even bacon, I said it. 9% and way too easy to drink. This was surprising and awesome.

Poured deep ruby in tone with a beige head. Aroma of alcohol and fruit with yeasty characteristics. Nice thick and chewy palate with floral and fruit flavors (maybe berries). Other notes of cloves, wheat and malts. Was very smooth and light for 9% but also very complex. Good Job New Belgium.
