Yerba mate was slightly noticeable ... earthy, faintly smoky, tea-like. In some ways it was mead-like, and in other ways it was white wine-like. Herbal aromas were pleasant. Yeast seemed to contribute well. Not too shabby. Beerlando (2350), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 7, 2008 Growler, courtesy DragonStout. Pours a clear, light golden body. Skinny lines of lacing mark the glass. Aromas of bubblegum, banana, clove, and Materva (a Cuban Yerba Mate soda) were very fresh and inviting, yet somewhat strange. Flavors followed down that same path, with the Yerba Mate becoming more and more obvious. The bubblegum is slightly minty, and it gets annoying pretty quickly. A mild hoppiness emerges on the finish. Medium bodied, this one feels slightly prickly in the mouth. I concur with PhillyBeer2112’s observation on the empty glass.....it did indeed smell just like gingersnap cookies. Strange. drewbeerme (2305), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 9, 2007 from a growler, thanks to BlackForestCO for this. pours clear golden with white creamy head. nose is very fruity, bubblegummy, orange, peach, with a nice yeasty spice. flavor is slightly PNW hoppy, mostly bubblegum, peach, orange, grassy, all the fruitiness is balanced by yeasty spice. a bit chewy. clean and refreshing. this really isn’t that much different from their regular trippel. pretty solid, but i was hoping the difference would be there as in the difference between their abbey vs abbey grand cru. it was not.
