Commercial Description:
Our first venture into organically-produced beer, Mothership Wit Organic Wheat Beer elevates the zesty Wit or White beers of Belgium. Our far-flung Beer Rangers affectionately refer to our Fort Collins brewery as the Mothership, a name that conjures images of earth shot from space and the interconnectivity of it all. Mothership Wit is brewed with wheat and barley malt, as well as coriander and orange peel spicing resulting in a balance of citrus and sour flavors held in suspension by a bright burst of carbonation.

More of the New Belgium trifecta that has hit NC. Upon seeing this beer AND fat tire on the same shelf I thought I had died and gone to Heaven (or hell?). At least this one is somewhat drinkable even though it is thin. Do people really get hard over these beers? I do not see it. La Folie, sure. Fat Tire? What? I could drink this one, but I wouldnt want to.

Hazy light yellow pour with white head that doesn’t stick around. Thin zesty dry palate. Nose of wheat more than anything but some notes of lemon, orange peel, and a hint of coriander. A bit more lemony on the tongue. Mild and not very interesting but not overly spiced like some, at least. Meh.

12 oz. bottle. Poured per instructions on the bottle, we start with a pale, hazy yellow beer, and light wit head. Notes has more coriander than usual, and a little citrus peel to it, almost overdone. A quick swirl of the rest of the bottle, then pour… even cloudier body, of course, and a bit more puff in the head. Hmm… tastes okay. A wit flavor with wheat spiciness and those added spices, nice small bubbles of carbonation. Lemony tartness. Just needs a bit more oomph to make this competitive with other Belgian wits and their many American counterparts.

A tasty but flawed Wit. Aroma exudes the requisite coriander and citrus, but is hampered by a vegetable aroma not unlike cooked broccoli. Perhaps a flawed bottle. Even so, it pours a gorgeous light straw cloudy yellow and is capped with a fluffy pure white head. Mouthfeel is light and pillowy with a nice softness in the finish. Coriander is prominent. A nice light tartness surrounds the tongue late in the swallow.

12oz bottle courtesy of mhewes poured into a pint glass. Pours "off-yellow" as I’ve never seen a paler straw as far as I can remember. There a small white head that dissipates very quickly and leaves no lacing on the way down. Aroma has light citrus hops balanced with the sweetness of the wheat in the form of bananas and some bubble gum. Faintest hint of spices, maybe clove, in the nose as well. The taste follows the aroma with a little less sweetness than the aroma and more spices. I definitely don’t get as much of the bananas but the clloves come out more aggressively especially in the finish. The mouthfeel is very light to the point of being watery with less carbonation than I was expecting. The look of this one really put me off but it was a decent witbier overall.

Cloudy pour. Aroma consists of hints of fruit and spices. Alright but not spectacular.

22 ounce bottle from Greenlife Grocery in Asheville, NC. Pours a hazy pale lemon yellow color with a large head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, bread, citrus and yeast. Taste is very dry with notes of yeast, caramel, pear and peach. Medium bodied.

Pours an alarmingly pale yellow with a large white foamy head that fades quickly. Aroma is of lemons and overripe bananas. Rather light, with a bitter, almost sour taste. Perhaps it’s the style, but I am just not a fan.
