Commercial Description:
Our first venture into organically-produced beer, Mothership Wit Organic Wheat Beer elevates the zesty Wit or White beers of Belgium. Our far-flung Beer Rangers affectionately refer to our Fort Collins brewery as the Mothership, a name that conjures images of earth shot from space and the interconnectivity of it all. Mothership Wit is brewed with wheat and barley malt, as well as coriander and orange peel spicing resulting in a balance of citrus and sour flavors held in suspension by a bright burst of carbonation.

Draft, cloudy straw collor with thin white head. Aromas of lemon, wheat, cloves, light banana. Taste is slightly acidic, lemon, with hints of cloves, coriander and honey sweetness and some bready yeasts. A very good wit.

Bomber. Pours cloudy bright yellow with sticky white head. Aroma is rather spicy with some citrus and dusty notes. The flavor is zesty orange right off, with a chewy wheat quality behind it. The coriander is pretty obvious, perhaps a little overdone. Finish is bitter enough to be crisp, with a little bit of a sour edge, too. Lively carbonation keeps it refreshing. Not bad.

Bomber at the Fox and Parrot. Pours a cloudy yellow with a fair white head. The aroma is definitely spicy with lots of orange, coriander, and husky bitterness. I found the flavor to reflect the same: more paper, grainy bitterness, and a distinct orange/lemon character. I don’t get into Belgian Wits very much and I approached this with apprehension. However, the strong, juicy citrus character and the punishing TN heat saved this one in my book. Not too bad.

Pours a cloudy pale yellow with medium white head. Very refreshing and smooth with a good aroma. Flavor is citrus and spice with a bit of banana and a nice yeast character.

(22oz bottle) Pours a cloudy straw color, with a bright white fluffy cream soda head. Aroma is heavy on the banana, but there is a funky undertone that I’m not a fan of. Body is thin, but you can’t critique a wit too much for that. There are some nice flavors to this one. Banana of course, but the spices come through a bit more in the flavor than the aroma to me. From the bottle, I like this the best of the New Belgium brews I’ve had.

Pours yellow, cloudy, with a moderate head. Aroma is quite nice, and fairly spicy with cloves, banana, hay. More citrus/lime to the flavor, with a sort of grain character that seems characteristic of New belgium. Yeast character leans on the pungent side more than the Sunshine. Light bodied, but decent texture. I like this beer pretty well and think it’s been a good addition to the NB line of beers.
