Commercial Description:
Our first venture into organically-produced beer, Mothership Wit Organic Wheat Beer elevates the zesty Wit or White beers of Belgium. Our far-flung Beer Rangers affectionately refer to our Fort Collins brewery as the Mothership, a name that conjures images of earth shot from space and the interconnectivity of it all. Mothership Wit is brewed with wheat and barley malt, as well as coriander and orange peel spicing resulting in a balance of citrus and sour flavors held in suspension by a bright burst of carbonation.

New in NC! Tasting notes from March 7. Appearance: Very pale...the color of straw, or cloudy fresh lemonade, or ginger beer. A nice billowy white head floats on top. Aroma: Divine, summery goodness. Rich and complex while still light. Notes of cereal, hay, chamomile, coriander, light citrus (grapefruit?), grass. Taste: A delight, if ever so slightly thin at first blush. As it lingers, though, complexity comes out: grain, citrus zest, coriander, chamomile, honey, lots of wheat. A tangy finish. Palate: Too damn watery at the beginning, almost salty at the end. Overall: A great beer to welcome the first warm day of March -- and also to welcome NB to my NC palate. This beer stands up to many Belgian wits I’ve had (Wittekerke, for example) and certainly is better than most American versions in my recent memory. Here’s a curiosity: when taken in small sips, it comes across as unpleasantly watery -- but when gulped, it’s rich and creamy. This would be excellent with lightly herbed/grilled whitefish with pineapple salsa; salted almonds or cashews; ceviche; goat cheese omelet with dill; lighter Greek/Lebanese fare. .

bottle. Pours a murky yellow color wit a small white head. Nose is funky and musty, bits of sourness and old socks. Palate is medium and clean. quite smooth. Flavor is lemony with a nice sourness that is fresh, some yeasty notes mix in as well.

Cloudy light yellow beer with a creamy head. Nice wheat flavor with citrus but it is very thin bodied and a little watery.

12oz bottle.
Pours a pale bright yellow with soapy white head that quickly settles to a floating wisp and leaves decent amounts of lacing in its wake. Aroma is intense with clove, banana and lemony citrus. The banana and clove dominate the flavor along with a surprisingly prominent hop bitterness -- this is not a particularly bitter beer, but it is more so than I’m used to for this style. Citrus flavors show up eventually but not as noticeable as in the aroma. That hop presence just keeps coming back and brings with it a bit of an off-flavor. Medium-thin mouthfeel with a softly carbonated palate and dry-ish aftertaste. I’ve had better and I’ve had worse.

Smell of yeast. Taste is light, watery. Like white bread with slight citrus and noticable yeast protein flavor. Not much body but delightful- probably better as a six-pack than a bomber. Smoother than Hoegaarden. Bottle from a freind.

I haven’t had many American witbiers, but this is one of few (and really, one of very few American interpretations of euro styles period) that I’ve had that is actually legit. I like this brew a lot, and always have; I’m pretty psyched cause I haven’t drank one in years. Color is almost too light to even be considered yellow. Head is OK (it’s MUCH better, as one would expect, when it’s on tap), smell is awesome citrus madness. Taste is somewhat more subdued, but it’s very refreshing. I forgot for a minute that it’s bombing rain shitty outside. It’s a solid take on the Belgian style, and at least in my area, a great value micro.
