Commercial Description:
Our first venture into organically-produced beer, Mothership Wit Organic Wheat Beer elevates the zesty Wit or White beers of Belgium. Our far-flung Beer Rangers affectionately refer to our Fort Collins brewery as the Mothership, a name that conjures images of earth shot from space and the interconnectivity of it all. Mothership Wit is brewed with wheat and barley malt, as well as coriander and orange peel spicing resulting in a balance of citrus and sour flavors held in suspension by a bright burst of carbonation.

Slightly hazy, gently yellow, cottony aroma with lemon peel and a touch of coriander. Dry wheat forward, touch of spice in the finish. Pretty dry throughout, I prefer this approach to wits over the sweeter styles that I find cloying or the aggressively spiced ones that come off artificial or soapy on my palate. Pretty straightforward.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy, very light gold with visible particulate floatage. Almost no head, and what was faded quickly. Light aroma of lemon, gala apples and wheat. Initial flavor is darker than I expected, but then quickly bursts into feathery lightness with orange peels, wheat grass, malt and overripe bananas? Maybe I’m just imagining that last one. Anyway, this is a fine Witbier. Nothing to get excited about though.

Bottle. Pours a hazy color with medium sized bubbly white head. Color is the typical pale malt, faint yellow color you get with most Belgian Whites. Aroma is the usual coriander and orange peel. Everything is well balance with the taste as well, however, it does have a bit of a tangy finish. It’s not bad, but if tamed just a tad, this would be even better. For $3.49 for a bomber, this is a great summer beer. Excellent.
