Commercial Description:
Our first venture into organically-produced beer, Mothership Wit Organic Wheat Beer elevates the zesty Wit or White beers of Belgium. Our far-flung Beer Rangers affectionately refer to our Fort Collins brewery as the Mothership, a name that conjures images of earth shot from space and the interconnectivity of it all. Mothership Wit is brewed with wheat and barley malt, as well as coriander and orange peel spicing resulting in a balance of citrus and sour flavors held in suspension by a bright burst of carbonation.

pours a pale whitish-gold with a thick white head that retains and laces well. first sniff is banana, underpinned by some lightly spicy phenols and a bit of citrus. crisp flavor starts with a bit of creamy maltiness then moves to a spice kick in the finish. fairly simple wit, but quite drinkable. spice does linger a bit in the aftertaste.

Bottle. Lemon/orange peel, coriander, sour milk malt aroma. Cloudy pale yellow color with small head. Sweet lemon/orange, coriander, clove and malt flavor. Nicely made - on the sweet side. Excellent wit.

Bottle. Pours pale yellow with a pillowy head. The aroma is definitely spice driven - plenty of up front coriander notes, dough and yeast. The flavour back this up with more spice, phenols and only a little citrus/lemon. A refreshingly dry finish. My only flaw is I would of liked more citrus evident to balance this and add another layer of depth.

Bottle and served in my NB Worthy glass: Light straw hue with a fading fizzy head but left good lacework upon the glassware. The aroma has notes of coriander, orange zest, banana, golden treacle, wheat and dusty yeast esters. The taste is surprisingly less sweet than the nose let on but there are still some malts to be found along with mild fruity and spicy notes. What is missing is the zesty refreshment I want in the style. This beer is an underdeveloped "witbier for dummies". with too much yeasty and malty notes and not enough citric blast. The mouth feel is also forgettable, lively yet soft at the same time, watery and chalky. A bad combination in the style if you ask me. I was shocked at the low site average before I opened it, now I am in complete agreement.

Not much taste here. Decent witbier with a decent taste and smell. Kind of grainy in the taste and smell, a little citrus, and a bland taste left on the palate. Meh

Pours a pale, hazy gold with a half inch of white foam on top. The nose is slightly tart with lots of citrus zest and coriander character. Coriander really comes forward in the flavor but not so much that it is unpleasant. Light notes of orange, sage, bubblegum, and a bit of that tartness from the smell. Quite dry and very refreshing with prickly carbonation that keeps the thin body from being too watery. Not my favorite style but one of the better examples of it that I have had.

Overall, a weak offering from what I believe is an over rated brewer in New Belgium. Slightly off putting aroma - almostd a slight skunkiness from a 22 ozer. Light Citrus background in flavor on a typical looking wheat beer.

12oz bottle:
Appearance: Pours a cloudy light yellow (lemonade?) with very little bit of white head and some lace in the glass
Aroma: Banana and citrus Taste: Bready, banana and citrus flavors. Finishes with a sour aftertaste.
Overall: Maybe it would have been better if I would have put some fruit on the glass :)

Pours a cloudy yellowish. Smell and taste was very citrusy and light, strong banana notes as well. Mouthfeel is a sweet malt finish with more citrus. This is a vey drinkable beer and one of my favorites of Fat Tire. This is perfect for a sunny day on the bay, or when you want your friends at a Raiders game parking lot to make fun of you for not drinking Coors LIght.
