First of all let me say that this beer is very pleasing to look at, a reddish-golden copper color. I poured this one gently into a Duvel glass and got just a skim of a head. Nose is very similar to an APA with floral (cascades) notes. Balance is incredibly hoppy for a Belgian too. Interesting to say the least. Right now I’m finding myself liking it. I’m not sure I’d enjoy this one regularly though. Brewmaster (168), USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | Aug 5, 2002 Golden color with a tall cream colored head. Light hops aroma. Spicy hops bite (along with the carbonation) from the first sip leading to a pale malt flavor that lingers through the finish. Nothing to complex, just a very drinkable brew. Malt and hops. A 'light' Belgian-style beer with quite a bit of flavor. Hops, malts and yeast seem to meld together wonderfully. They complement and balance one another perfectly. Nice and creamy finish. Clean, rich, effervescent, malty and very tasty. Not over-the-top, which some may perceive as a negative, but I saw it as a positive -- very simple, yet effective. brewbandit (312), Marietta, Georgia, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 5, 2002 I tried this on a nice rainy summer day, along with some Chimay White...it was the heavyweight champion Chimay versus the up-and-coming middleweight New Belgium. The champion was the clear winner, even though Porch Swing didn’t exactly go down in the first. The color was similar to the Chimay but the head was considerably weaker. Fruity aromas were good...the only complaint that I had was that the flavor got a little bit grainy toward the end.
