Commercial Description:
New Belgium's seasonal release, Saison, pays tribute to Belgian farmhouse ales brewed to celebrate the fall harvest. Pale bronze in color, our Saison is slightly spicy and delicately hopped. A sweet malty note glides along with herbal tones produced by an authentic Belgian yeast strain. The finish is surprisingly dry.
Originally, local brewers crafted Saison beers for seasonal workers in the farming community to enjoy at the end of their day. With typical hoppy character and an intriguing Belgian twist, Saison will appeal to hop lovers and wheat beer drinkers alike. Whether you're pushing a plow or a pile of paper work, Saison will help you bask in the afterglow of a job well done.
Saison - Enjoy the season.
Pale bronze in color, this delicately hopped ale has a bright, yeasty, artisanal quality worthy of toasting those long autumn sunsets.

Light golden pour and quickly fading white head. Very fruity/yeasty nose. Very light bodied malt base supporting a light fruity highlight of cherries, pears, apples, and a touch of citrus. Light Belgian spicing and a touch of floral hopping. Decent overall, but there are so many better Saisons out there.

Enjoyable ale, but to me it comes across more like a light Belgian golden ale. It’s golden in color, clear, with a rapidly diminishing white head. The aroma is quite fruity, pears & apples with some cherries. A sweet, light malt lies beneath it all. There’s a modest spicing added to the flavor along with a faint floral bitterness. It finishes sweet, but dry. Nice, but unlike most of the Saisons that I’ve had.

Pours a clear, golden-copper color with a small, fizzy, white head that dissapates very quickly. Nose is full of fruity Belgian esters (mostly pears) with a subtle spicy (pepper and ginger?) note and floral hops. The fruity esters are still prominant in the the mostly sweet flavor with the spiciness making itself more evident and a subtle toasty note. Hops are somewhat subdued, still floral and giving a moderately low bitterness. Palate is lively to fizzy with a fairly crisp mouthfeel and a medium-light body. Finishes with some sour apple and spice, but still sweet and drying out. Not as dry as I thought it would be and not overly complex, but alcohol was well hidden. It was refreshing and drinkable, but lacks intriguing character. Not quite a saison, lacking the tart flavors and distinct bitterness, but nonetheless it was a nice Belgain pale or whatever style you want to classify it as.

bottle 12 oz. Not the same label as shown on this page. A clovey spice & fresh ground coriander seed taste delivered on a rather thin malt body. To the point of making me think it contained actual clove & coriander spices. A touch of sourness, lacking any depth or complexity. Clean (in a bad way for a saison) & sterile tasting, no saison funk. Might be a stepping stone beer for someone?

120z bottle. Clear and golden, almost copper. White web of head. Yeasty, musty nose. Perfumy aromas. Medium and toasty. Sweet amlts and citrusy flavors. Slightly cloying. Crisp and smooth with the musty floral yeast flavor. Slightly grassy and spicy. Barnyard straw hops finish. Nice!

The 12 ounce bottle poured a very clear golden amber beverage with a small bubbly white head that did not last long and left almost no lacing on the glass. The aroma was primarily fruity displaying pear and apple scents but it also had a subtle spice component with notes of pepper clove and coriander. The body was medium light with lively carbonation and a slightly dry texture with a hint of tartness. The flavor begins with a tart fruity sweetness with hints of pepper and clove and a soft malt background. The finish is medium-long and a light alcohol warmth rises toward the end.

Me like...I have not had a ton of Saison’s but this is a good tasting beer. The aroma is classic Belgian...horse ass and goat hair. The carbonation did not last long on this but had a decent lacing. The taste is tangy...no hops...some vanilla and creme soda flavors. No bitterness at all.

From a 12 oz. faux-trappist New Belgium brown bottle with a blurb and best before date on the right side of label, 19.01.07, from the refrigerator and served in a New Belgium chalice. Like the label stated, poured a clear pale bronze with a foamy white head that settled into a thin lacing. Aroma of earthy clove spiciness, a little farmhouse funkiness, toasted grains and bready malts, a light fruitiness and subtle floral and herbal hops. Moderate carbonation for a saison and a softly crisp, dry and smooth light bodied mouthfeel. Pleasant tasting, toasted grains and a little sour bready, earthy clove spiciness, a very light apple fruitiness, the hops are subdued and herbal, the alcohol is well masked and only makes a brief flash towards the end, a subtle dry pepperiness at the end too, and a dry grainy and soft sour fruity finish. Not a great saison, but not a bad one either, I enjoyed it, easy drinkability, worth a try.
