Commercial Description:
Bringing together what we both do best, New Belgium and Elysian’s brewmasters create a Belgian-inspired India Pale Ale. Hop-forward with a Belgian strong yeast, this Trippel IPA opens with citrus and floral tones from generous hopping, then gives way to soft peachy notes implied by the yeast. What’s this Trip about? An artisinal collaboration, New Belgium and Elysian are brewing limited small batches together. We’ve described this new adventure as The Trip, and each beer we release will fall under this brand. By joining, we have the ability to increase efficiency, encourage creative experimentation, and take a bold step into the future of American craft brewing.

Tap at Naked City. Fairly big glass if you ask me. Nice haze orange color. Nice thin head on top. Very good looking beer! Very fruity aroma, with a nice pungent yeast aspect as well. Not much on the hops in terms of aroma. Hops slightly show up as the beer warms, but never to the point of the yeast/fruit aroma. The hops come out more in the flavor as the beer warms, but again the yeast/sugar/fruit flavors dominate. Fairly smooth beer. Glad to have tried this, but I wouldn’t say it is an IPA because the hop profile just doesn’t come out as much as it should, but still a rather delicious beer.

On tap at Naked City. Pours cloudy orange with a decent off-white head. Aroma is mostly nutty, dusty funk with some banana/clove buried in there. Citrus and grassy hops show up a little bit in the taste, orangey turning to bitter grapefruit in the finish. Still mostly the yeasty Belgian thing than an IPA.

Tap @ PIB... Poured cloudy orange with a thick, off-white head. Piney, citrus hop aroma. I thought this one was way better than #2. Very thirst quenching for the hot day at the fest. Well balanced citrus hops and a sweet honey character. A nice finished probably from the yeast.

4 oz. pour at Seattle International Beer Festival. Golden yellow color with crazy ass 1 inch thick head foaming over the glass. Aroma of fresh piny floral hops. Belgium yeast, sweet candy taste. Not too bitter, dry finish.

Draught. Poured murky orange with a white head. Aroma of cloves and citrus. Citrusy flavour with lots of spice and that funky Belgianness one finds in many Belgian beers. Lasting hop finish.

4 oz. taster at Seattle IBF. Pours a cloudy orange color with a white head. Aroma is fresh hops, floral and piny with a hint of pot. Flavor is bubblegum, pine, banana, a good deal of bitterness. Very dry with a long bitter finish, medium bodied with generous carbonation.
