Commercial Description:
Saluting our continued survival on this planet we decided to go all out with New Glarus Alt. This is a bold and racy toffee laced departure from the typical Dusseldorf style. Enjoy now or if you are the investment type lay it down. At twenty degrees Plato this might be more accurately termed a Triple Alt. The brilliant bronze body was cultivated in a three hour kettle boilof Caramel malts and Raw Turbinado Sugar. Aged on oak in open top fermenters followed by a second round of bottle conditioning. A firm head of foam sweeps brisk hop notes of Syrian Golding and German Hallertau to your nose. A defiant anomaly tenacious and independent this is a flavor experience to relish.

1/07/2009: New Glarus Alt pours an orange-copper color with a off-white to beige head. The toffee aroma is fairly sweet and toasty with a touch of astrigency (acetone) and Wintery spice or something. The flavor is malty (cherry-almond-like) and lightly spiced and hpped. It is medium-bodied and quite drinkable. Overall this is a good holiday Alt.

12 fl. oz. bottle () from Jason. Thanks, man. I appreciate it! Rating #46 for this beer.

bottle from bockyhorsey...

pours a hazy copper orange with a fairly large soft off white head. lots of drippy and spotty lacing is left on the glass. initial blast of floral alcohol on this one... bananas come to mind followed by rich caramel malt, piloncilla sugar, yeast and some grassiness. no doubt that this is on the sweet side for my palate... loads of brown sugar, malt, earthy spice, over cooked caramelized d’anjou pears and some florals before alcohol comes in on the finish. something strange in there... reminds me of a chemical laden malt liquor (perhaps the abv%, idk). there also seems to be a faint tartness in the background trying to get out. a daunting task given the sugar content... thick sticky body coats the palate with a gritty texture similar to banana starch.

i’m not digging this one. far too sweet for me and lacking a whole lot of character to mix it up. i’d be hard pressed to choke down a bottle. good thing i’ve got superdave70 here.... 6/4/5/3/12/3.0

Bottle. Poured a clear dark orange color with an off white head. Subdued aromas of hay, noble hops, and copper kettle. There was also the slightest whiff of brown sugar/toffee. Medium bodied and sweet. Tasted of caramel, hay, and light grass. Some mild bitterness emerged at the end. A bit too sweet for me at the time I rated it. I will revisit the rating after letting it condition in the bottle for a while.

Bottle. Clear amber color, minimal carbonation. Minimal head. Flavor is caramel malts and caramelized sugars, followed by dry earthy wood notes. Finishes with notes of dry vaguely metallic German hops. Banana bread notes give hints of some Belgian yeasts within. Warming alcohol notes on the back of the throat. Pretty interesting beer, definitely different.

Pours a hazy copper gold with thin white head. Aroma is of candy sugar, malts and toffee. Flavor is a sweet banana clove with a nutty toffee after taste. Body is a medium creamy with quite a bit of lively carbonation. This is a beer that I quite enjoyed.

Great beer here. Strong flavors. Sweet but with hops there too. I will say drink before it reaches room temp cause the booze comes out fast as it warms. Hey i bought a case obviously im a fan!

Ah, my first beer at Three Cellars new beer cafe/store location on 76th Street. The good news - I thought this beer was pretty true to style. The bad news - a lot of diacetyl and some copper-iness. It poured a brilliant brassy color with pretty minimal white head. Aroma was caramel-y and a touch of malted milk ball. Flavor was some caramel, quite a bit of copper taste, and lots of diacetyl. Mouthfeel was pretty good. Not bad, but not a new favorite of mine. I’d weakly recommend.

Spicy and peppery carmelized malt aromas. Some gingerbread and light citrus and perhaps a little banana. Copper colored with a thick foamy off white head. Flavors of rich roasted malt, burnt toast, caramel, light alcohol, with a bitter balanced finish. Carbonation is mild and a very light syrupy palate. Duration is bitter with pops of sugar to balance. Pretty good and overall a very enjoyable beer. Probably would pair well with certain foods.
