Commercial Description:
Saluting our continued survival on this planet we decided to go all out with New Glarus Alt. This is a bold and racy toffee laced departure from the typical Dusseldorf style. Enjoy now or if you are the investment type lay it down. At twenty degrees Plato this might be more accurately termed a Triple Alt. The brilliant bronze body was cultivated in a three hour kettle boilof Caramel malts and Raw Turbinado Sugar. Aged on oak in open top fermenters followed by a second round of bottle conditioning. A firm head of foam sweeps brisk hop notes of Syrian Golding and German Hallertau to your nose. A defiant anomaly tenacious and independent this is a flavor experience to relish.

Pours copper with gold edges and tan head. The aroma has a nice wood note followed by dark fruity esters and a touch of caramel. The taste starts with wood goodness that actually persists from front to back. Toward midway fruit of prunes, raisins and hints of ripe cherries mix together along with mild molasses and caramel notes.

12 oz, thanks to General Gao. Annoyingly large five-finger head, even with a careful pour, on this hazy orange-copper beer. Of course this leaves some nice lacing behind. Light aroma of caramel, apple and fruit gum. Flavor is twangy apple, grainy caramel, light alcohol and berry. Finish finally comes after four-to-five sips with some light grassy and woody hop. Light-medium bodied. Bleah.

Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a clingy-lacing froth of light tan head. Aroma of sweet toasty dark caramely German malts with a mild noble hoppiness. Body starts with nice fullness and sweet malty flavor well-balanced with the perfect amount of bittering hops. Finishes semi-sweet and fairly crisp. Very true to style and enjoyable, but that is no surprise coming from this brewery. One of the best altbiers I have had.

Amber color with a an off-white head that retains quite well and leaves a good lacing around the glass. Brown sugar, clove, a touch of all spice, gingerbread cookie, and almost seems to have a bourbon note in the aroma. Ginger, sugar cookie, clove, spice, and caramel in the taste. Higher than medium carbonation, with less than medium body. Almost seems like a Belgian style beer. It will be interesting to see how this ages.

Coppery amber. Lightly hoppy aroma, hint of carmelly sugar. Very little bitterness. Medium light bodied. Rather mild like to me. I/m really not sure what this has to do with alt. Cleanish copper colored ale, but beyond that I/m not exactly sure.

Courtesy TheCheeseMan. Pours a dark copper-amber color with a fading, foamy, beige colored head. Lacing is mostly sudsy in nature, with a few random flares and spots remaining behind to dry. The aroma shows heaps of caramel, along with candy sugar, dry, bready yeast, hints of red apples and ripe pears, and some potent floral hop notes. Flavors show more of the same, the sweet, sugary, caramel malt base countered nicely by substantial floral and grassy hops, with apple and pear lending bright, fruity depth. Some peppery spice comes through on the finish, working with the lively carbonation to end things intensely. Substantial on the palate and only lightly syrupy, the finish is semi-dry from the obviously potent alcohol content. This is a big and tasty brew, well balanced, yet bold in its imperial-style presentation. Just further proof that Dan Carey is a jack of all trades.

Bottle. Poured a gold hue with a good white head. More of a spicy flavor with some sweeter malt flavors. Not particularly my thing but OK.
