| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 19, 2005 Small tan/grey head, short lived with a small amount of spotty lace left behind. Lightly hazy copper color. Nose is of fresh sliced apples, juicy. Light bodied. Juicy apple flavors along with a faint caramel maltiness. Finish is lightly sweet and fruity. Facto! | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 11, 2005 Pour is brown like apple cider with small tan head...smell is apple and sugar...this is quite overrated...tastes like an overly sweet brown ale with sugar and a dash of apple juice...interesting but sickeningly sweet and not apparent apple-i-ness... hopscotch (5475), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 11, 2005 Bottle... Clear, copper/amber ale with a small, creamy, white head and decent retention. Rich, lightly spicy, fruity aroma. Silky, sweet, malty flavor. Not cloyingly sweet. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Short, enjoyable, fruity finish. All that said, this brew tastes like fresh apples! Another fun beer from New Glarus! Thanks to footbalm for the bottle. heykevin (1269), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 5, 2005 Medium-dark golden, bright. Light watery-apple aroma. Thickish in the mouth (at least compared to cider) Gently spicy apple flavor shows only the merest hints of appley tartness. Plenty sweet in the finish, becomes extremely sweet as it warms, even cloying. Some musty apple character comes forward as well. I’m not impressed. pantani (1896), Salinas, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 1, 2005 Thanks Footbalm! Aroma is euphoric apple juice, sour apple pucker, and apple jolley ranchers. Very sweet, like red and green apples combined. Pretty damn good. Slightly too sweet, a bit of acidity would be nice in this brew. Still a good beer. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 27, 2005 Thanks to Mr. Facto for this beer.
Poured a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma is sweet apples. Taste is sweet with an apple crispness, with hints of brown sugar. It tastes pretty much like biting into a crisp red delicious apple. This would be an excellent dessert beer, accompanying apple pie or similar apple dessert. In this sense, it’s a complete success. It’s sweetness and lack of tartness really makes it more suited for dessert drinking, and not for refreshment however. Doesn’t have the drinkability of Belgian Red, but is still a damn fine brew. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 25, 2005 Nice light golden copper color with a slight hazyness to it. Small, loosely bubbled and strangely constructed greyish cap that whisps away pretty quickly leaving a thin collar that stays about half the glass down. Lacing is very minimal in spots.
Aroma is musty mushy bruised apples, borderline melon-like with a more musty past-its-prime honeydew thing. Oddly abtrusive yet possibly appetizing and intreguing nose.
Flavor is mellow and musky with a heavy sweet dark apple skin and mush tone. Pretty darn sweet and thickly so; the apple isn’t to bad, its not cidery, its mushy, chewy, tangy, and mellow. The sourness is beyond deep in tone, nearly nonexsisitent until very late where some truer crispy apple tones float across the finish.
Feel is partially thick and chewy with a mellow tang and solid sweet dark apple tone thats melony and candy-like. Sugary through and through; smooth and creamy mediumness in body.
A strange brew tis true. One thats either a ’love it’ or ’hate it’ thing. I’m right in the middle, I don’t particularly like it all that much, but it doesn’t bother me or uninterest me either. I probably won’t buy it again but I’m glad to have tried it. One of those types of brews. Sickboy282 (1098), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 25, 2005 Pours a more orange than amber hue with a small, slight off-white head. Aroams of grass, wheat, very little apple presence. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and DAMN I must be drinking apple juice. This taste just like straight pure gala, or whatever apple you have. Similar to a cidaer, but smoother , yet you still can’t tell that this is beer. DAMN NEW GLARUS and their fruit brew.
