Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

Bottle (thanks to Ofortuna). Sour milk, tart cherry aroma with light hint of barnyard. Cloudy red-orange-brown with small head. Sweet and sour cherry with a hint of mulling spices - similar to the sweet fruit lambics. Slightly dry acidic finish. A true work of art - phenomenal fruit beer.

Sample courtesy of a travelling fellow beer lover. This brew pours a lustrous brownish, purplish red with a medium thick and fizzy beige head that dissipates steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of sweet cherries blended with other tart fruit, sweet spice, and wheat. Medium-bodied with a complex fruit character of fresh cherries and strawberries along with spices and malts. Light wheat and yeast undertones at times. The finish is richly fruity and tart and leaves a lingering cherry aftertaste. Quite simply the best Fruit beer I have had.

Bright red-brown body. Creamy white head. Frothy. Silky body. Nose of cranberries, cherries, spice flavor. Warm and complex. Nicely balanced. This is the beer that tasted like Thanksgiving.

Bottle purchased in Milwaukee. Broke this out for my 40th birthday. Cherries--it overwhelmingly smells of fresh cherries, in a tart cherry pie. Pours a deep red with no head. Very light carbonation, medium bodied. Beautiful tart cherry flavor. No added sweeteners. Very clean finish. After tasting, we added a scoop of French Vanilla ice cream for a marvelous treat. I couldn’t drink this all the time, but for special occasions, this is a truly great American take on the Belgian lambic style.

Bottle: Pours a clean slghtly hazy red with athin white head. Aroma of malt, cherries, tart and sweet. Flavor is lightly malty with some yeaty notes and of course sweet and tart cherries, moderate sourness. Very balanced and a perfect example of what a kriek should be.

My first "fruit beer", has a tart little snap to it. Definately interesting. Definately a good desert beer. Or one to have when your just kicking back and are a little thirsty.

Tasted in tribute to the great Michael Jackson who passed on today. He was one of my greatest heros. He rated New Glarus Belgian Red as one of the top ten beers in America in 2002: http://www.beerhunter.com/documents/19133-001726.html. A great beer for a great man. Bottle from iowaherkeye in June 2007. Pours a deep cloudy red color with a hint of brown. No head, but finely carbonated with a microbubble splash eminating from the pour. Aroma is of a malted cherry cheesecake, and oak deceptively combining to allude to cinnamon. Aaah, a beer so pleasant in aroma in need not be consumed. No! It must be consumed. The taste is mild, lightly carbonated, and at the same time very flavorful. A masterfully brewed beer with high residual sweetness, so the taste of cherries is complete. Easy to drink. Perfect to pair with many foods. Aaahhh. Pleasure.
