Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

This beer offers lots of big cherry flavor, replete with a puckering mouthfeel of cherry sourness. It is good, but I can’t help but feel highly over-rated. It offers a cherry tartness so rich, I feel like Pac-Man (level one) when drinking it. I would almost prefer something a bit more understated and nuanced, like the Lindemans kriek. Still, I love sour, so it is difficult for me to badmouth this beer. Its color was not as pleasant as I expected (more of a red brown than a brilliant ripe-fruit red), and aroma was just so-so, but that flavor was a big punch of flavor that I really enjoyed.

This beer is a real treat! Beautiful red color, lots of carbonation, minimal or no head. A very good expression of a lambic-type ale.

pored in a flute and had with an awesome rotation six pack of ipas’.(avery ipa, victory hop devil, gl commodore, gd titan, 3 fs’ ak, and two hearted). pours a cloudy caramel color with a one finger light tan fluffy bubbly head with light red highlights. aroma is nice sweet cherries with a little tart, some yeast, and a little oaky vanilla very nice. has a medium to full body with descent lacing and good carbonation. flavor is wow very sweet cherries’ with just enough tart mixed in and a touch of yeast and oaky vanilla. WOW AWSOME! almost has a cider type flavor to it and at the same time a champagne, sparkling cider type mouth feel. very awesome stuff i would recommend this to anyone whether they drink beer or not. good job new glarus!! i noticed that the aroma does get better and is perfect as it warms, so i went from a 9 to a 10 to make this my first perfectly rated beer!!! pours a little more dark ruby red color at the last half of the bottle.

Bottle many thanks to footbalm. Pours a deep red/orange with light red head. Delicious aroma of sweet juicy cherries, tart, caramel malt, and a hint of funk. Wow flavor is intense... cherries and more cherries. Sweet and tart, with hints of sweet malt. Great flavor, but slightly overpowering. Strongest flavored fruit beer I’ve had. Nice, smooth mouthfeel.

Thanks to oakbluff for this gem! New Glarus Belgian Red 750 ml bottle Moderate pour in a shaker. Unknown brewing, enjoyed 07/07 Poured a dark red, with some brown tinges, with a moderate off-white and "off-ruddy" fizzy mostly diminishing head. Smelt of strong tart cherries, baked cherry pie, candi cherries, spiced cherry jam and fermented cherries by the windowsill. Taste was upfront strong sweet and sour cherry juice followed by a stronger sweetness on the follow through to a nice mellow moderate sweet and sour finish. All cherries. Palate was cherry. Overall, holy fucking cherries! I’m happy I shared this with semi knowledgeable beer friends, because it was great, but also there’s no way I could have drank a whole bottle. It’s just too much cherries. One glass is a great treat though. Cherries.

Bottle. Pours a hazy dark red color with a decent sized beige colored head. Aroma is phenominal, huge tart cherries, dough, citrus, yeast, candi sugar. Flavor is again phenominal, huge tart cherries, dough, citrus, yeast, candi sugar. Palate is medium, highly carbonated, finishes initially sweet then turns tart. Simply awesome.

Served into a champagne flute. Poured a murky red color, slight head and lacing. Smell is hard to describle- kind of a musty sweet smell. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this beer and it met my non expectations. Wow- what a different flavour! Huge cherries, with a really sour finish, but yet sweet at the same time. the sweetness seems to be like a honey flavour. Good mouthfeel and carbonation. I’m not a huge cherry, so the flavour of this beer is probably wasted on me. I due to have to give credit for an awesome effort and a very complex brew. I am very glad I had a chance to try this, but probably a one time try.
