mreusch (715), Olathe, Kansas, USA Jul 28, 2007 750ML bottle, with a big THANKS to Dorwart; pours a cloudy dense reddish brownish amber orange with a slight tan head that forms and disappears after the pour, then settles into a whispy covering, minimal lacing. Aroma is a pop of freshly cooked sweet bing cherries and slight dough; the "cherry pie right from the oven" comparisons are on the mark. Flavor exceeds expectations on my first Fruit Beer, cherries with enough tartness to keep your attention, yet not overpowering. Palate delivers a gentle and mellow mouthfeel, carbonation and finish that seems needed for this style. A very good, refreshing and interesting beer. BuckeyeBoy (1645), Boise, Idaho, USA Jul 18, 2007 #600 Bottle 750ml pours out a sweet maroon topped with a light tan head. WOW aroma of sweet cherrie pie. Taste was GREAT. The best fruit beer I have ever had. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 18, 2007 Bottle from KingpinIPA - thanks! (also just got one from footbalm - thanks!) Deep reddish color with a medium and quickly fading whitish/beige head. Aroma is thick with ripe, sweet cherries. Taste has a bit of tartness with sweet malts - oh yeah, and lots of sweet cherries. Tasty and sweet with just a bit of sourness. Oak aging helps the flavor, but its not over the top. Really nice, though I think the Phoenix Kreik from Selins Grove edges this guy out in a close one. Reeeeallly good cherry/fruit beer. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Jul 18, 2007 Pour is a deep dark red with a off white head. Aroma is cherries with some candi sugar and Belgain yeast. Flavor is all about the cherries. Its like drinking the best cherry pie you ever had in your life. Super deep cherry with some sweetness and ends very doughy. Probalby one of the best fruit beers i have ever had. xmarcnolanx (789), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Jul 17, 2007 Updated: Sep 13, 2007Wow, I am really surprised by this beer. I am really not into Belgian styles in general. I know that is a broad assertion, but the aroma of sweet cherries and earthiness is alluring. It tastes of sweet fermented cherries, a touch of chocolate and slight hop finish. Very well balanced and very good. Flyer (118), Hartland, Wisconsin, USA Jul 17, 2007 A wonderful beverage, but I struggle a little to rate this, because it really doesn’t have a lot of beer-like qualities. It takes a pretty vigorous pour to get much of a head. The aroma is a hedonistic cherry immersion, and the flavor is more of the same -- tart, fresh, delicious. Malt and hops are undetectable, as is the alcohol. Actually, even a little bit of an alcohol burn would push it to a higher level for me. Recommended, definitely, but I do have to rate it in the context of a beer. (And while we’re at it -- Leinenkugel’s Berry Weiss gets beaten up in reviews on this site for its lack of beerlike qualities. While it’s certainly not in the class of New Glarus Belgian Red for other reasons, I feel this is an example of the anti-big brewer bias that sometimes rears its head here.) drazil91 (39), Panama City, Florida, USA Jul 14, 2007 I am not a usual fruit beer drinker, but this stuff is realllllllly good. Cherry flavor is tart, like cherry pie, not too sweet like cough syrup would taste. Not bitter, great aroma and color. Good head, not much lacing. Excellent finish. Give one to your wife to hold, and drink it when no-ones looking. hopslovin (180), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jul 13, 2007 Deep ruby red pour, thick tan head that diminishes into a very nice sticky lace. Monster cherry flavor with lots of sweetness. Sweet/sour finish. Very good.
