Ofortuna (322), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA Nov 1, 2006 Finally getting around to rating this wonderful brew. Several different vintages sampled over the past several years have left me with a good impression of the quality standards that New Glarus preserves. I love how cloudy this brew looks. Gives the feel of a nice hand-made artisan beer. Floral aroma that invites the fruit aromas to dance with your nose. Wonderful texture in the mouth as the oak and cherries continue to waltz around the palate. One of the top brews in Wisconsin and proud that it comes from my back yard. biggcb (459), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 1, 2006 Bottle (courtesy of Brigadier). At long last, I finally tried this elusive brew. The anticipation and wait were well worth it. Once in the glass, the cherry aroma was deliciously dominant. Flavor, as expected, was very cherry with a nice bite of sourness. Almost a perfect balance between the fruity sweetness and the crisp tartness. Hugely drinkable. Very refreshing. I need to get a few more bottles! bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA Oct 29, 2006 750 shared with after4ever. Pours a cloudy mahogany with an off white head. Aroma is domintated with dried cherries. Medium body and carbonation. The taste is sweet/tart like a liquid version of Trader Joe’s dried Montmorency cherries. Dry finish. If you like tart cherries, this beer is for you - it’s more like a cherry cider than a beer. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Oct 28, 2006 750. Pours cloudy brown with a thick, bubbly tan head that falls away to nothing pretty quickly. Super-intense cherry essences all over the nose and palate. Creamy, sticky, almost-thick body with nearly-fizzy carbonation. Deeply intense cherry flavor. Good stuff, fairly refreshing and drinkable given the sugar content and thickness. jcr (1137), Jasper, Indiana, USA Oct 22, 2006 All cherries, all the time. There is some maltiness here, but I had to work overtime to find it. Cloudy dark amber pour with little head. Aroma is full of tart cherries with subtle malt notes. The flavor is virtually the same as cherry juice — sweet with a tart finish. More tartness would have been welcome. Medium body, sticky with lively carbonation. Tasty fruit brew. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Oct 16, 2006 25oz bottle. Aroma: Big-time slightly sour cherry aroma, very light malt behind all that cherry. Appearance: Color reminds me of an organic ruby red grapefruit I had once. Dark Pinkish-Red with some brown thrown in for good measure. Very hazy. Head was a very light pink, and quite small. Not much lacing. Flavor: Again, the cherries dominate from front to back. Slightly tart fresh cherry up front, rounds out to a sweeter dried cherry in the middle, And kicks another bit of tartness right into the finish. Sourness lingers for a while, but is never unwelcome. Palate: Medium bodied. Medium-high carbonation. Overall: I’ve been wanting to try this for awhile, and am now kicking myself for not trying it sooner. Unbelievably good! ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA Oct 16, 2006 Updated: Jan 9, 2008Bottle. Enjoyed at the tasting bar at Port brewing. Murky reddish brown color with a tanish head. Busy, bready cherry aroma that smells just like a cherry pie. The cherry pie continues into the flavor where it complemented by a slight sourness. Not exactly what I’d call a session beer but it really makes a statement! Very nice.
Re-Rate. Bottle sent to me by CaptainCougar about two years ago- I don’t know how old it is. Pours a dirty garnet color with no head and seemingly no carbonation. Big cherry aroma. Cherry pie flavor. Somewhat sweet, It toys with being too sweet but stays fairly tart towards the finish. The carbonation is very light and seems to weigh the beer down on the palate; I may have sat on it too long. Still nice. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA Oct 10, 2006 Updated: Mar 17, 2007Bottle 46F Flute. Light aroma of concentrated cherries and a bit of nutiness. Very murkey red brown color very similar to muddy water wit ha light white head and good lacing. Very strong sharp, tart cherry taste, that slowly changes into something richer maybe like , prunes, or dates. Finish is very tart dry and contains of bit of earthy malt undertones. Light mouthfeel with good carbonation, reminds me of sparkling prune juice, alcohol is not very present at all. Over all very good very natural tasting, appears to me to be of a very old, rustic sort of tradition for which I enjoyed this.
