FlyingTaco (112), Massachusetts, USA Jul 9, 2009 Original review date 5/3/2008...from 750 into Riedel Extreme Burgundy/Pinot Noir glass.
Pours dark cider/caramel color with ample natural cherry hue. Carbonation cloys to bowl of glass; head very thin.
Perfumy, natural cherry essence brings the dominant scent here - slight tangy yeast and malt. Just enough citrus funk.
This is a treat - understated yet plentiful carbonation delivers a powerful cherry and natural sugar hammer with powerful force. Slight saltiness from carbonation. Nice backbone of yeast, slight citrus and braised malt.
This delivers much more of a hearty yet mellow (almost boiled? not a bad thing) mouthfeel. A slight salty tinge from the carbonation hits the back of the mouth with little aftertaste from a long and deep finish. Almost as if there’s a significant tannin profile from the cherry skins as would be expected in wine. Gets stronger and more enjoyable with warmth.
This is a pleasure to savor but drinks much easier than other offerings crafted at this level of excellence. Great stuff.
fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Jul 9, 2009 Bottle 75cl. @ [ Tasting by cgarvieuk ]. Clear medium to dark orange red color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white red / orange head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy overriped cherry, cherry, mazipan, red wine / grape notes. Flavor is light heavy moderate sweet and moderate acidic with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090411] tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA Jul 8, 2009 Nose is dominated by cherry puree, mint, slight tartiness, mostly smells like xmas.
Poured brownish red with a pink head.
Tastes like a pound of cherries. Just doesnt taste like a beer, too much cherry, too sweet, very juicy. I applaud them going out and makinmg a VERY natural flavored fruit beer. This one just isnt for me. hayduke (1620), Eureka, California, USA Jul 1, 2009 From a 750 ml bottle this poured a very rich and dark cherry head with almost no head. The nose is very strongly cherries and some hard to identify spices. Very lively mouthfeel. Flavor is sweet with the cherries dominating. This is a remarkable fruit beer. tekhna (100), California, USA Jun 27, 2009 Cherries and a whole lot more cherries! Special trip through superior WI after breaking my foot to pick it up. I don’t pick up much of the oak, but this is a great beer. Even if I don’t care for fruit beers. Usually taste fake. This has more of a taste of cherry butter rather than a cherry itself. joshpiledean (224), Ames, Iowa, USA Jun 26, 2009 Every once in a while, you come across a beer that changes the way you think about beer.
This is one of those beers. slitcher (87), Freeport, Illinois, USA Jun 23, 2009 Pours a hazy redish brown with a thin head. Fresh cherries on the nose along with some spice. Sour cherries on the pallet with a sweet malt backbone and cinnamon in the finish. A great dessert beer. GranvilleTim (465), Granville, Illinois, USA Jun 22, 2009 Dark red pour with white head with a red tinge to it. Sweet, yet tart aroma of cherries. The cherry flavor is like taking a bite of cherry pie- flavorful, fresh, wanting more. There is a slight tartness just at the end. I must remember to buy more the next time in Beloit., a 200 mile round trip is worth it.
