PorterPounder (2852), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 22, 2005 Discount Liquors, Milwaukee, WI. - 500 ml bottle. Thick, murky - orangeish auburn pour with a long lasting, persisitent, creamy white head. Aroma, which is the only weak point of this brew, has a slight cherry cough syrupy bent to it - nice - but not strong enough to match the other high qualities of this beer. Flavor - almost too much! It is as if somebody sat here and put fresh cherries in my glass, fermented them and served them to me. Noting artifical here, thick and syrupy and fresh and not too sour. Excellent, not enough words to describe it. Mouthfeel, thick and creamy and coats your tongue and throat. This stuff could be addicitng, may nee dto pick up another bottle on the way home to share with my fiance! Worthy of its lofty ranking.
mrm1021 (19), Naperville, Illinois, USA Oct 11, 2008 Bottle picked up in New Glarus during Labor Day. Pours hazy amber-red with a thin slightly pinkish off white head. Significant cherry aroma with a hint of sherry. Intense taste of cherries and good carbonation but goes down smooth. Tart finish that intensifies if the beer warms up a bit. Lambic-like characteristics makes the Begian Red a good drinking beer on a warm day unless you are unfortunate enough to hate cherries. Beershine (1440), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Oct 2, 2008 Bottle @ Cole’s. Curses: WHY CAN’T I DRINK THIS MORE OFTEN? Hazy strawberry color with little head. Intense cherry pie, compacted jammy aroma. Soft but solid carbonation. Intense jammy body. Pie filling in a glass. Pounds of cherries transformed into beer by goddesses. Kick ass!!! Pleeeeease can I have more? Please? durhambeer (535), Durham, USA Sep 28, 2008 Rating # 500! Cloudy garnet pour with off-white, pink/orange-tinted frothy head and great lacing. A pleasure to behold. Nose was very reminiscent of the kind of cherry topping typically served on top of cheesecake or cherry fruit roll ups - something I’ve never been too fond of, but admittedly, this still smelled pretty good. A bit syrupy and similar on the palate, but a bit more tart and I kept getting notes of pineapple juice as well. A tasty beer, but I’d take Raspberry Tart over it any day. dalekliz (206), San Diego, California, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bottle, sampled at RBSG 08, with thanks to Ughsmash. Pours an amber-red with no head. Huge sour cherry aroma, reminds me of cherry pie. Taste is both tart and sweet cherries. Lingering tartness. Absolutely amazing cherry beer. gax33 (11), Minooka, Illinois, USA Sep 28, 2008 Beautiful in the glass. Great color and aroma. Strong cherry flavor - kind of like a lambic but more for the adults. Tasty.
