| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 7, 2009 So I’ve been waiting to try this beer since Eric (heemer77) would rant about this beer and how great it was--3 years ago! Thanks coharahawk for the many bottles of this. Deep brown with a frothy two finger beige head, fantastic retention. Clean roasted malts and unsweetened cocoa up front with some toast, banana, sweet caramel, and light spicy cloves rounding it out. Flavor is a little spicier. Sweet banana and caramel up front, and the roastiness doesn’t really come through until the finish, which was semi-dry with bitterness around a 2-3. Moderate carbonation with a light to medium body. Eric, you were right--this is damn good. I love you (and miss you) New Glarus! GAManiac (1186), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 2, 2009 Big thanks to Adam for this bottle, poured into a weizen glass.
Pours very dark brown underneath a massive three inch beige head that stays on as a huge cap for the duration and leaves great lacing.
The aroma is wonderful, a perfect mix of the dark roasted chocolate malts and wheat sweetness. It’s almost like a chocolate covered banana with a hint of toasted character. There are some spices that tingle the nose as well.
The taste mirrors the aroma and starts with the sweetness of the wheat with some bananas and hints of spices. The dark chocolate malts form a solid backbone with an almost smoky sweet malt finish.
The mouthfeel is super silky with plenty of carbonation that dances all over the palate between each sip.
Though I haven’t tried tons of them, this is the best dunkelweizen I’ve had by some margin. New Glarus just continues to blow me away with their wheat beers. World class. cgarvieuk (4212), Edinburgh, Scotland

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 30, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deep brown color with a medium sized foamy head. Flavor is crisp chocolate, cocoa powder, caramelized malts, followed by a somewhat dry chocolate milk finish. Damn, this is a really solid beer. Medium bodied. Deep flavor presence from beginning to end, without overwhelming in any aspects. Well done, nothing much more to say here, the rating should speak for itself. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 30, 2009 Pours a clear espresso brown/black with a good layer of lightly tanned-head. Aroma is toasted nut, chocolate and sweet notes of raspberry. Flavor is sweet coffee with roasted malts and pepper banana bread undertones. Body is creamy but light with fair carbonation. Flavor is similar to a bock but with way better body. LtDan (520), Los Angeles County, California, USA

Aroma: Roasty malts, toasted wheat, wit bier type spices and bread crust.
Taste: Bready malts, banana, bread crust, spicy hops.
Mouthfeel: Silky and thick.
Overall: Another great wheat beer from New Glarus. I take back my dislike for American Wheat Beers. puzzl (2647), New York, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Apr 30, 2009 Bottle from noncaloric. Absolutely gorgeous pour, monster head, super thick, with rolling, cascading bubbles creating quite a feast for the eyes. I’ve never seen carbonation behave quite the same way it did in this beer, with smaller bubbles tumbling downwards through larger bubbles in a glorious waterfall-like visual. Nice!
As for the beer, well, it’s got a lovely nutty/peanuty aroma, loaded with chewy wheat, farina, and chewy nougat. The body is surprisingly thin and can’t carry flavor very well, a significant and surprising flaw in an otherwise excellent beer. Also kind of tastes like McDonalds. In the beer’s defense though, the bottle was nearly empty long before I’d even thought it was time to rate it, so I can’t say it’s not super-drinkable.
