Nice mix of grains, spices, chocolate and coffee, but it still has a nice cripspness from the wheat. A bit thicker on the pallete then the cracked wheat, but still darn good. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Bottle (thanks guyinchicago!)... Poured deep brownish/amber with a thick tan head that faded quickly. Cocoa malts a caramel on the nose. Smokey, chocolate malts, a little coffee and some hops even. Spiced notes, and fruits. Dry finish. Amazingly complex for the mellow ABV. MoDog (927), Griffith, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 13, 2009 12oz bottle served in a weizen glass. Dark, dark brown pour with a two-finger thick head of tan foam that slowly settled. Probably the darkest dunkelweizen I have ever seen. Slippery lacing. The aroma had banana, citrus, chocolate, and some spicy yeast esters. The flavor was fairly roasty with strong notes of chocolate, bananas, fruity citrus, and a hint of burnt malt. Dry, chalky mouthfeel with a moderate amount of aggressive carbonation. Quite tasty, but the darker roast flavors overwhelm the wheat just a bit. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 13, 2009 Bottle thanks to Brigadier. Pours with a creamy tan head and a black body. Aroma is strong of wheat even without going anywhere near the beer. Closer inspection reveals coffee, wheat, caramel, sharp clove, banana esters, chocolate and light smoke. Taste is spicy and estery with wheat and chocolate. A touch of leather as well. Decently dry. Coffee. Brimming with carbonation, creamy. Tons of clove in the finish. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 5, 2009 [Bottle] Pours a cloudy dark brown color with a perfect tan head. Aroma of cinnamon, clove and dark malts. Taste includes some cocoa, yeast, nutmeg, sweet caramel and wheat malts. Crisp and dry finish. Fantastic body and average carbonation. Another great weizen from New Glarus, although I prefer the lighter versions. bhensonb (4371), Woodland, California, USA

Aromas of clove and dark roast grain. Medium body with mildly frothy carbonation. Flavor is burnt malt, chocolate, and clove, or perhaps cinnamon. Subtle. Maybe a touch of coffee with time. Finishes towards dry and chocolate. Quite different and quite tasty.
