This was the most "weizen" dunkelweizen I think I’ve ever had. While definitely dark, with lots of roasted malt flavor coming through, this one had the pronounced banana/bubblegum flavor of a classic hefeweizen. I really appreciated the juxtaposition of the two aspects. jarlbartar (88), Janesville, Wisconsin, USA

Very strong alcoholic warming effect after the swallow. matta (1139), Tampa, Florida, USA

Pours a murky ink black/brown body and a tall khaki head. the aroma hints of banana, bubblegum, coco, almonds, a split vanilla bean, and red apples. The flavor has a raw chocolaty appreciation, with suggestions of coconut milk and Bananas Foster … Black Wheat was at it’s best once it warmed almost to room temperature.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 4, 2007 From notes dated 2005. Pours a dark oak color with a tan head. Aroma of Mexican chocolate with spices poured over a banana. Taste is a dark bread, slightly spicey, lots of yeast. Compared to the Euro Dunkels this was vastly superior in all aspects, especially aroma in that it maintained a Hefe quality. walleye (882), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 12, 2007 Bottle from CaptainCougar. Appearance of carbonated prune juice- a murky, dirty dark orange-brown, topped by a thin ring of tan carbonation. Complex, inviting aroma I can best characterize as a banana split, with chocolate-covered banana, clove, and caramel notes. Toasty, rich body with a delicate brown sugar sweetness, layered breads, with abundant banana and clove. Distinct chocolate finish. Soft mouthfeel. A fantastic wheat beer.
