It pours a deep, dark brown, nearly black but not completely so. The head is a fizzy, bubbly chocolate color that retires into a halo state after a few minutes. It has a strong roasted aroma, malt, burnt chocolate, and some spiciness. It’s lively in the mouth, struggling to suds up as though it was carelessly poured into a glass. (I thought I was gonna dribble and, although aging, I’m not that old!) There’s a roasted grain flavor that approaches harshness until it’s smoothed out by the oats. Dark caramel (is there such a thing?) and bitter chocolate are there, too, along with some clove and pepper spicing. It finishes on a lightly sweet, caramel note with just a bit of stickiness. Good brew!

Pour is a nice dark brown with a generous head that went away in good time. Aroma is very soft, marshmellows, malt, caramel, wood and earth. Flavor has a decent kick to it to combat the heafty malt notes. Really a great beer. twindadplus2 (417), Wisconsin, USA

Aroma of wheat, bananas, brown sugar and sweet malt. Flavor is dark roasted malt and spiced fruits with a bit of sweet malt coming through more as it warms. Finishes with a smooth bittersweet, roasted flavor. Wheat beers are not my favorite style but this one was enjoyable. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 9, 2005 I smell a lot of alcohol for a 5.75% beer. A lot of malt and ample brown sugar and spice notes. Dark cloudy brown color with a pinky thick head. Smoky fore that proceeds a wallop of bannana flavor and finishes with more smokiness and some roasted malt notes. Very nice treatment of the style. Much more soft and round due to a complete lack of clove notes. In most wheat styles that would be a glaring omission. Here it works well. redlight (1489), Winter Park, Florida, USA

Very seductive aroma of black wheat, bananas and spices. Excellent flavor of bananas, spices and powdery black wheat with a mild bitter finish. The body is light to medium with a dry texture and lively carbonation. Excellent dunkelweizen, the style percentile is 100 and it deserves it, probably the best example of the style availble right now. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA

Pours black with ruby highlites topped with a mocha colored semi-fizzy head. Sharp wheaty aroma, with touches of hops and spices... not as sweet as I thought it would be. Taste is nice and complex with a mild sweetness backing up flavors of banana, clove, and cinnamon. Coffee begins to come through towards the end and dominates the finish. The body is smooth, if not especially full. Very drinkable and a good tribute to German brewing. awaller05 (301), Sharon, Wisconsin, USA

Pouring into a glass brings a dark to black pour with a minimal head. First taste has a chocolate and coffee bean flavoer, finished with a small banana taste. Great, awesome taste.
