Damn, I broke a ring of the glass off opening this. Pours rich black with a tan head. Nose is very rich and full of flavor. Wow taste is big with licorice and a nice big sweetness. Intense and good. Perhaps a bit too intense for how I’m feeling right now, but a good ole dunkelweizen damn straight bvc (336), Kenmore, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 16, 2009 12oz bottle that I am pretty sure Ughsmash sent me. Pours a very deep coffee brown with about a half inch khaki colored head. Nose is wheat, roasty malt, coco nibs, hints of banana and some yeast. Taste is very much a wheat beer, semi sweet and estery but the roasted malt gives it some depth and makes it finish up a little more on the bitter side. Carbonation is a little on the heavy side, but all in all this beer is refreshing and enjoyable. I could drink this by the pints. Thanks Jason! eaglefan538 (2399), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 15, 2009 Bottle from bockyhorsey, another MidWest grab by him for me. The pour was pretty deep brown-black, off-white deep rich and thick head. The aroma was coffee and roast, dark malts, some wheaty aspects, esters, no real yeasty or spicey elements. Flavor followed the dark malt, coffee, and roast elements, but picked up more on the traditional caramel, esters, and spicey (cloves) aspects of the base beer. Perhaps the roasty-est and dunkel-est of the dunkelweizens I’ve ever seen! Full body and mouthfeel, dead on to style. Thanks, Bill! CanIHave4Beers (912), Des Moines, Iowa, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 15, 2009 Pours a deep brown almost black with a big light tan head that diminishes but stays small and tight throughout the glass. I love the aroma on this one, good roasty coco aromas, some spiciness, some coffee beans, some nuts. Delicious aromas. Flavor is nice mildly roasty with some classic wheat beer flavors, with a spicy clove character and a discinct yeastiness. Not to mention tons of chocolate and some fruity banana notes. Just wonderful. felsenpils (12), Sacramento, California, USA

Had it on tap in downtown New Glarus. Tastes like a Schwarzbier, looks like one too. Good beer, wrong cagegory. Lacks any Weizenbier characteristics whatsoever - screams overblown American micro. C´mon guys, have you never been to Munich to drink real dark wheats like Schneider Weissbier? All these brewers have to do is pump up the volume (color, bitterness, etc.) and up go the ratings. fidel (1002), Livermore, California, USA
