I love New GLarus, and have samples most of there brews. This one was surprising weak on the coffee flavor, smells really rich with coffee beans, but the flavor just isnt there. This will probably be more appealing to people that dont want a blast of folgers in your face, very easily drinkable (nice english) I will have to try some other coffee stouts to compare. drpimento (828), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA

Poured a clear mahogany with a creamy cap of well-retained deeper beige head. Nose was of airy grains, mild roasted coffee, a hint of hazelnut, and faint grassy hops. The flavor had a heavier coffee component, but was never overbearing... grainy milk chocolate, mild coffee roast + bitterness, and light herbs come across. Light body on it and grainy across the middle... nice balance between the roast and coffee bitterness. Solid brew. Juelze (904), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 19, 2007 Room temperature as suggested on the bottle. Pours a dark brown color with nice frothy off-white head that damn near spills over my glass. Aroma is of a roasted malt and roasted coffee. The coffee is well done in the aroma as it’s not overly played out yet you know it’s their. Time for the taste...not bad. This beer reminds me quite a bit of New Glarus’ Road Slush except with coffee. Again, the coffee is not overdone but fits the bill quite well. Roasted malt and a nice bold coffee intertwine to dance across your tongue. The finish is a bit thin and missing the oomph that I desire with a stout. Aside from that it’s a solid brew! | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 17, 2007 A little confusion as to the label and coffee flavour in this one. The label description states that, "the deep coffee flavors are created naturally during the brewing process by dark roasted malts". However, the bottom part of the label says, "Stout brewed with coffee" and I know I’m tasting actual coffee in this beer and not merely from dark malts. Regardless, good coffee flavour throughout despite a very light body for this style. In fact, I’d rate this considerably higher if they didn’t skimp on the grain bill. Hops, malt and coffe are well balanced and create simplistic layers of aroma and taste. However, I can’t get past the thin body on this one and drops the overall rating down quite a bit. faro99 (2), Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA does not count | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 16, 2007 Coffee and chocolate goodness. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 15, 2007 Updated: Jan 31, 200712oz bottle. Pours a cloudy, near-opaque brown-black with hints of ruby-red on the edges. Aroma is almost one-dimensional coffee but caramel & chocolate malts make their way through as does a light roast-grain bitterness. Flavor again prominently features coffee, though not with the intensity I had expected. The chocolate and carmel malts that teased in the aroma make but a bare showing in the flavor -- fair enough for a coffee stout. Nonetheless it’s not overly-dry either. Dry-bitter from the dark-roast grains is prominent but never overwhelming. Hops add more dryness than flavor. Medium, slightly oily palate. I remember this being more intensely flavored the first time I had it many years ago. I think maybe the sheer variety of flavor-bomb beers that have hit the market since have altered my perception of what an "intense" beer tastes like. Still, this is quite a solid brew. Glad to see it again after so many years.
