Commercial Description:
Hearty and satisfying, our Coffee Stout is the ultimate full-bodied brew. Wisconsin water, roasted malts, and imported hops are the natural ingredients we use to brew this bier. Then cold pressed organic coffee from Just Coffee Co-op is infused into the brew. Expect this bier to pour a deep creamy head over an ebony rich body. Notice the powerful malt bouquet balanced by a spectrum of extravagant flavor. Served at room temperature this Wisconsin Coffee Stout is guaranteed to warm even the coldest heart.

(bottle) Pours a black with a dirty white head. Aroma is of faint chocolate (hot chocolate). At first sip its very shallow but then the complexity picks up and wow what wonderfully balanced and robust beer. Flavors of mocha and cofees linger in the aftertaste.

Deep black with barely visible ruby highlights and a big light brown head. Aroma is loads of coffee and roasted malt with a bit of sweetness. Flavor is strong coffee and a deep roasted bitterness with a bit of smoky molasses. A bit less body than I would like in a stout but still had a nice creamy feel and a good dry finish. A nice warmer just in time for the cold weather. (and Brigadier is right, have a glass ready when you open one)

12 oz bottle

This has just been unretired so while in New Glarus I picked up a sixer. At $6.99 it was a pretty good deal in my opinion - this is almost as good as it gets with coffee stouts. It is also readily available in Wisconsin without having to hoard it (at least until it is retired in three months time). Pick it up or trade for it while you can.

Aroma / Appearance - A huge fountain of dirty mocha colored foam gushed out of the bottle as soon as I opened it. Be prepared - my glass was in the other room so I lost about an ounce to the floor and sink. Once it settles down enough to be pourable the head remains at about one-finger height. The body underneath is deep black. All light gets sucked into it mercilessly. The aroma consists of black coffee, toffee and smoke. A bitter undertone highlights it all.

Flavor / Palate - Upon taking a sip I was reminded of drinking straight coffee in a smoky tavern. Molasses, toffee and a hint of some undefined fruits complete the picture. The mouthfeel is full yet still feels a bit thin. With the dry finish I was able to enjoy my glass though this is one you could either take your time with or move through quickly. The aftertaste is creamy and balanced. I’m glad I have more to open later this month.

A very strong taste, which in fact makes the beer easily drinkable at warm and cold temperatures. Very sad to see it retired.

A nice stout. Coffee taste. But still, it, like the other New Glarus I’ve had, did not live up to the brewery’s reputation. I expected a bit more in terms of depth and taste.

Bottle: Courtesy of bu11zeye via trade. Big coffee aroma with moderate roasted malt and chocolate. Pours a dark brown with barely some red hilights when held to the light. Small tan head never really gets going, and is pretty much a ring from the get go. Definitely lots of roasted coffee and roasted grain. Chocolate is subtle and comes more towards the finish. Hops are present in the finish as well, but are light and blend very well. Coffee and roasted malts linger for a little in the aftertaste. A little more lively carbonation on the palate than you would expect from a stout. Very good. I could drink a lot of this.

This brew is really dark brown,no foam or carbonation to speak of.More of a roasted malt nose but I do get a coffee aroma but not like I was hoping for.Nice flavor with a little bitterness.Thin on the palate but I do get that iced coffee taste.

Dark brown with light showing through. Smoky black charred malts and a little dark roast coffee. Not an overpowering coffee nose, which scores points. Kinda thin texture... good sweet toffee, coffee, almonds, and chocolate chip cookie flavor. Thanks to footbalm for sending this one along.
