| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 3, 2009 Big coffee aroma with moderate roasted malt and chocolate. Pours a dark brown with barely some red highlights when held to the light. A small tan head that leave a bit of lacing. Definitely lots of roasted coffee and roasted grain. Chocolate is subtle and comes more towards the finish. Hops are present in the finish as well, but are light and blend very well. Coffee and roasted malts linger for a little in the aftertaste. A very smooth and drinkable stout. I could not be happier that New Glarus put this back into their seasonal rotation. noompa (130), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | May 3, 2009 12 oz. bottle (2009) in a shaker. Quite black, albeit not impenetrable w/ a fast dying light brown cushion of a head. Roasted malt and coffee, hardly any hops. A little too thin bodied, which is my gripe with a lot of their ales. Still, uncomplicated and tasty. LtDan (519), Los Angeles County, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 2, 2009 Appearance: Pours a jet brown with no head. You can see just a faint amount of frothy swirls gathered at the top.
Aroma: Coffee, roasted malts, and chocolate.
Taste: Spicy hops, Columbian coffee, roasted malt and raw coffee beans.
Mouthfeel: Very fizzy.
Overall: A great level of tasty coffee and roasty goodness in this brew! beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 22, 2009 Tasted during the Nor Cal Beer Geek Tasting on 3/11/2009. This sweet stout pours a deep black color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is coffee, some more coffee then some chocolate and a touch of vanilla. A medium bodied Sweet stout. The malts are roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. The hops are earthy. Very intense, but very good coffee flavors. As per usual for New Glarus beers, this one is very nicely balanced. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Aroma is heavy malt (nutty, toasted grain, coffee), light hops (herbs), average yeast (leather) with notes of tar, raisins, and cola. Medium bodied, oily texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Apr 3, 2009 (bottle) Pours black with a large light tan head that leaves great lacing. Aroma does not start out very promising, and is filled with old, stale, sour smelling coffee. Smells just like the grounds left over in a french press. There are hints of cocoa, roasted malt, and light smoke, which provides a bit of a counterbalance to the awful stale coffee. Hints of bell pepper and walnuts. Thankfully the taste is far better than the aroma, with some light roasted coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt. I’m surprised the coffee flavor isn’t sour or ashy here. Finishes roasty with a smooth and substantial mouthfeel. Not a bad beer, and it would actually be quite sessionable as long as I didn’t have to smell it. sebletitje (1966), Tampa, Florida, USA

Pours dark brown with mocha head.
Aroma is just simple and filled with coffee - espresso, light roasted malts.
Taste is also very straight forward. light roasted malts, light hoppy bitter finish.
Silky mouthfeel, faint bitter finish but remains loaded with coffee.
Goods tuff, not too complicated just plain good coffee.
