Commercial Description:
Copper Kettle Weiss is designed in the traditional style of a dark wheat beer. Rich malt flavors are accentuated through our complicated decoction mash and finally balanced with select Hallertau hops.

Sampled at Dutch70’s "Tasting in the Woods, Part Deux". Pours slightly hazy copper with a thick white head. Banana, wheat and fruitiness in the nose, quite nice. Flavor has notes of caramel, bread, clove, banana and an herbal quality. Pleasant sweetness. Medium bodied with full, lively carbonation which satisfies and coats the mouth. Different from some of the other dunkels I’ve had (which isn’t that many). Very good overall.

pours a hazy copper/orange with a big pillowy just off white head. Aroma of yeast, banana, wheat, malt. Just a bit of belgium aroma and taste to it, with mostly banana and wheat flavor. Solid

Sampled from tap at the New Glarus Brewery on 10/11/2006... Note: I forgot to pick up an extra bottle of this while I was at the brewery. However, my friend got a six pack of this so I asked him to save one for me. I will update my tasting notes when I try it again from the bottle... Rating: 7 3 8 4 16 = 3.8.

3/24/2007: New Glarus Copper Kettle Weiss is a cloudy honey/golden copper color with a large, foamy beige head. The aroma is lightly sweet (enough to make your mouth water) and contains caramel, banana, clover and a little smoke (my favorite!). The flavor is very similar to the aroma with banana, some smoke, and a rich caramel malt chewiness. My wife always jokes, "you and your smoke [obsession]", but this time she could not disagree about the definite smoky flavor in this beer! The body is medium and the visible carbonation level is mild. The mouthfeel is smooth with some liveliness from the carbonation. This is a VERY good, if not great dunkelweizen. Another impressive New Glarus brew... 12 oz bottle (2436 10:46) from buckybeer. Thanks Mark... I forget to grab one of these when I was at the brewery on 11/11/2006. After having this bottle, I should have grabbed an entire 6-pack!

Courtesy of my mother in law. 12 oz. bottle. Aroma was a pale wheat til the beer warmed. Got some good vanilla and banana aromas late into beer. Cloudy golden body and big white head that disipated fairly quick. A carbinated wheat beer with a banana flavor in the middle til finish as beer warms. Good refreshing beer.

Finally got around to trying this and now I’m wondering what took me so long. From a 12-oz. bottle, this pours a somewhat hazy medium amber with sizable white head--gorgeous, when it comes right down to it. Great lacing. Aroma is wheaty & clove-y. Very creamy, almost luxurious texture with minimal carbonation. One of the smoothest beers I’ve ever had, especially from a bottle. Good wheat background with fairly subtle banana & clove highlights. Outstanding beer.

Bottle courtesy of JK. Finally got my hands on a NG beer. Honey banana, yeast and malt aroma - clove and pepper aroma comes out as it warms - excellent. Cloudy orange-amber color with moderate head - a lighter colored dunkelweizen. A creamy orange and banana malt flavor with hints of cloves. High carbonation. Nice full body. A great example of the style - one of the best.

12 oz bottle. Cloudy honey-orange with a white whipped head. Gone quick, bit of lace. Lemon, wheat, some funk. Pretty classic. Really sharp lemon banana to start. Carb just tingles the tongue. Melting Trippel popsicle. Roast, nutmeg, pepper, caramel. Everything nicely blended but each element stands out. Much better than the Ayinger Ur.
