Commercial Description:
100% Wisconsin malt of six different varieties impart the natural toasted color to the bottle conditioned unfiltered ale. Clean hazelnut notes result from these carefully chosen barley malts. Hops from Slovenia, Bavaria and the Pacific Northwest give Fat Squirrel its backbone.

Fat Squirrel was one of the best beers I have tried lately. Good head and carbonation. Just sweet enough not to be obnoxius. Wish I could get New Glarus all the time down in TN.

Poured mahogany from the bottle with a thin white head. Odor and flavor of chocolate.

Gotta say I absolutely loved this one. Just one of those right beers at the right moment. Pours a medium brown with a decent off white head. Sugary chocolate malt nose with a subtle roasted pecan nuttiness. Light to medium in body and very smooth on the palate. Sweet, but not overly so. Slightly hoppy finish makes this one nearly perfect.

Bottle poured to glass. Roasted malt aroma and piney hops. Thick, rich 3 fingered head off-white in color atop a light colored brew (being a brown ale). Tastes of sweet caramel taste with a short shoft hops bitter. Maintained a thin head for the entire drink and fine lacing down the glass. A5 A5 F7 P3 O14 ReRate 2-4-2009 Bottle poured to glass. Nice copper brew with off white head. Smells of hazelnut and malted grains. Soft carbonation on the tounge. Full malty mouthfeel. Sweet on the palate but not cloying. Soft hops bitters to evenly balance the malt. A6 A3 F5 P3 O14

Bottle. Goose Island Nut Brown is my standard, so the bar is high for this one...Pours lighter than expected, like a Sam Adams Lager. Head is minimal, some bitterness in the aroma. First sip...Nice! Very full-bodied- deceptively so given the lighter color. Hint of chocolate, hops, some sweetness. Very unique- hard to put my finger on it, but the combination works great.

12 oz bottle poured medium brown with a bit of orange and red. Thin white head that dissolves to a ring around the glass. Sweet and nutty aroma. Some caramel and toffee too. Taste matched the aroma with some bitterness. Slight sour taste.. Felt a bit thin. Nice (not fantastic) brown ale.

Bottle thanks to James. Gotta admit first that nut brown ales are among my least favorite styles, so this is a ’good’ rating from me. Malty, nutty nose and similar palate. A bit more roastiness than expected. Sweet and malty, and pretty tasty. My least favorite New Glarus beer so far, but their worst is better than many other breweries’ best, so...

Bottle. Pours a deep golden brown with a small off-white head that dissipates to a swirl along the top fairly quickly leaving pretty good lacing. Smell is sweet burnt/roasted caramel malts with a slight nut aroma as well. The taste is a much sweeter, more complex version of the nose. There is a huge sweet malt slug up front that flows right into a roasted nut flavor with some maple syrup sweetness in there as well. I also got a hint of fruits, maybe raisins, right before the finish. The mouthfeel is fairly light and extremely crisp despite the sweetness. This is a very good nut brown and the taste is extremely well balanced yet unique. I really like this one and could drink it all night.
