Commercial Description:
100% Wisconsin malt of six different varieties impart the natural toasted color to the bottle conditioned unfiltered ale. Clean hazelnut notes result from these carefully chosen barley malts. Hops from Slovenia, Bavaria and the Pacific Northwest give Fat Squirrel its backbone.

(bottle) Pours a light brown with an off-white head that didn’t develop until after the beer sat a bit. Aroma was somewhat weak, but what was there was caramel, with a hint of hazelnut, and some toasted smell too. Taste is caramel initially, slight fruit, with a toasty, nutty finish. Medium body, not too bad.

[Bottle] Pours reddish-brown with a thin cream head. Aroma is nutty, toasty, malty. Not too sweet. Taste is nice, but not great. Fairly typical malt and nut taste. Medium-thin mouthfeel. Pretty nice toasted finish. Fairly smooth. Solid, but doesn’t set itself apart.

Big thanks to jarlbartar for bonusing me this brew. Pours deep golden brown with distinguished half inch white head. The nose is full of roasty maltiness, nuttiness and mild yeast spiciness. The initial moment of flavor seems to start out like a typical brown with a charge of malt astringency. But here it is faint and very brief. The taste quickly becomes rich, smooth, malty and nutty. The roastiness starts first then nuttiness enters along with faint caramel candy. Nice mild nutty after taste. Very nice.

bottle - wow - a REALLY good nut brown ale! Normally brown ales do nothing for me - I’d almost rather drink a Yeungling than most brown ales. This one however was fantastic. Good malt body with notes of nuts and grains and just a hint of chocolate. Hops are a perfect balance to the malt and gives it a nice finish. This is probably my highest rated nut-brown ale ever.

12oz bottle via trade, likely with KingpinIPA. Pours orange amber with a lot of carbonation. the head is about pinkie width in a tan color. Nose is a bit malty. Pretty tasty nut brown, lots of light coffee malt, and some other things. Happily surprised by this.

Bottle in Montello, Wi. This is my favorite beer. Nut brown with hazelnut notes. Rich mouthfeel, very malty, barely detectable hops. Finishes smooth and creamy with hints of caramel and toffee. I didn’t consider this a "brown ale" at first, thinking more rich "amber", but the name correctly implies nutty brown. Not as rich or heavy as a Newcastle.

Hey this is a good beer. The color is a beautiful reddish brown. THe body is semi thin but the flavor is full. Very nutty it goes down smooth. Not one I would drink every single day bt I enjoyed this beer. A good beer for cold weather.

My buddy from Wisconsin brought this back with him. I was impressed as I usually am with brown ales. I wish we could get New Glarus brews here in SD.
