Commercial Description:
100% Wisconsin malt of six different varieties impart the natural toasted color to the bottle conditioned unfiltered ale. Clean hazelnut notes result from these carefully chosen barley malts. Hops from Slovenia, Bavaria and the Pacific Northwest give Fat Squirrel its backbone.

bottle - wow - a REALLY good nut brown ale! Normally brown ales do nothing for me - I’d almost rather drink a Yeungling than most brown ales. This one however was fantastic. Good malt body with notes of nuts and grains and just a hint of chocolate. Hops are a perfect balance to the malt and gives it a nice finish. This is probably my highest rated nut-brown ale ever.

12oz bottle via trade, likely with KingpinIPA. Pours orange amber with a lot of carbonation. the head is about pinkie width in a tan color. Nose is a bit malty. Pretty tasty nut brown, lots of light coffee malt, and some other things. Happily surprised by this.

Bottle in Montello, Wi. This is my favorite beer. Nut brown with hazelnut notes. Rich mouthfeel, very malty, barely detectable hops. Finishes smooth and creamy with hints of caramel and toffee. I didn’t consider this a "brown ale" at first, thinking more rich "amber", but the name correctly implies nutty brown. Not as rich or heavy as a Newcastle.

Hey this is a good beer. The color is a beautiful reddish brown. THe body is semi thin but the flavor is full. Very nutty it goes down smooth. Not one I would drink every single day bt I enjoyed this beer. A good beer for cold weather.

My buddy from Wisconsin brought this back with him. I was impressed as I usually am with brown ales. I wish we could get New Glarus brews here in SD.

12-oz. Thanks, Facto! Pours hazy dark amber with a thick and bubbly but short-lived head. Minimal lacing. These guys have packaging down pat; one look at their labels, pretty much any of them, and I am in the mood for a beer and my expectations are boosted a bit. Nice graham cracker, cola nut, and walnut nose. Firm, medium body with active carb, well-modulated. Molasses, light semi-sweet chocolate, and plenty of nuts on the mid-palate. Nice acetic, lingering dry finish. One of the better browns, for sure--especially given that it’s a straight brown, rather than an "imperial."

12oz bottle from Dansting. Pour is almost clear (ever so slight haze) orange amber with visible carbonation bubbles.and a dirty white head. Aroma of not too much, actually. I get some faint sweet caramel malt, but really not much. Taste is semi sweet malt and an interesting drying quality to the finish. There is some nuttiness to this one as well. Nothing really stood on this one for me, though it was certainly very drinkable.
