Commercial Description:
100% Wisconsin malt of six different varieties impart the natural toasted color to the bottle conditioned unfiltered ale. Clean hazelnut notes result from these carefully chosen barley malts. Hops from Slovenia, Bavaria and the Pacific Northwest give Fat Squirrel its backbone.

Tasted 7/17/07 at a STL beer gathering - Thanks to Strykzone for supplying. Pours clear orange / bronze with a small off-white head. The aroma is nutty and musty with toasted malt, light butter and light nuttiness. Medium / light body with a small amount of carbonation. The flavor starts with some nuttiness, toasted malt and a bit of 7-Up. The finish is sharp and a bit off. As it warms gets nuttier, smoother and significantly more pleasant. I liked this more than a 3.1 rating, but I can’t see any numbers I’m comfortable raising.

Pours amber brown color with lively carbonation. Lots of toasted malt in the aroma. An abundance of malty characteristic with Hazelnut, brown sugar, and caramel. The hops keep it from becoming too sweet. A fine example of the Brown variety. Great beer to have with some mixed nuts.

Enjoyed a bottle of this at a St. Louis gathering. What a nice beer! It is pretty much pure sweet malt and it is as smooth as a prom queen’s thighs. It is one of those beers that you could sit back and chill with at any time of the year.

Pour is a brown with a white head. Aroma is very roasty but not much else. Flavor is a little better. Some bready dough and nuts with a nice fruity sweetness. An ok rep of the style.

A great brown ale. Has great notes of hazelnut and hops. Pretty light on the palate. Definately worth the cost.

A non ratebeer friend of mine picked this up while recently in Wisconsin. Thanks Jason! The appearance is clear dark red body with a thin large bubbled head. Aroma is of hazelnut, butterscotch, and faint hops. The mouthfeel is a little chalky. Light bodied, but fairly decent. Not a bad brew by any means. Also nothing that I’d jump for joy over either.
