Commercial Description:
100% Wisconsin malt of six different varieties impart the natural toasted color to the bottle conditioned unfiltered ale. Clean hazelnut notes result from these carefully chosen barley malts. Hops from Slovenia, Bavaria and the Pacific Northwest give Fat Squirrel its backbone.

Pours a nice brown color. Taste is very up front with hazelnuts. One of the better brown ales I’ve had but it’s not the type of beer I can enjoy a lot of. Good for what it is.

The best brown ale I have had to date hands down. It pours brown and has a good head. The notes of hazelnuts show through and they show even heavier on the palate. The finish give an almost stout like caramel/coffee flavor.

Picked up single 12-oz bottle from Flanagan’s Liquors in Appleton, WI. Pours an amber brown brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that leaves behind a thin film and a good white ring. Aroma of roasted nuts, caramel malt, a little Ivory soap, and some flowery hops. Taste is medium body, some biscuit character, a touch of molasses and some spicy nut aftertaste. Finish is smooth, creamy and a nutty hop bitter taste that stick around for a while.

It took the US Open’s logo with a fat squirrel and a golf ball to get me to look at my notes and think that it looked familiar. Why the logo when they removed all those trees is another matter. Not a fan of Brown’s which is why I did not enter this before. Pours a medium brown color with a small non lasting head. A clear malt aroma and taste, sweet, with some vanilla, very faint at the end. One I was glad I could switch with the IPA and pils( all had the green neck label).

Bottle. Pours hazy amber with copper glints. Nice mellow malt nose. Fairly straightaway flavor profile: A hint of toffee, dry chocolate, nuts and a refreshingly hoppy finish. Very nice beer.

Chicago trip. Monday 21:20+. Better in the bottle than the pint on tap at the restaurant in New Glarus. Clean bronze-amber colour. Nut, alcohol and oily licorice.
