A little burnt, and heavy like a Wisconsin, northwoods brown ale should be. I can understand why they drink it year round up there. Some taste of nuts, possibly chesnuts as the description indicates, and quite good on its own. I had two, one with my beef pastie and another by itself, and both were good. Widely available in WI, but I have trouble finding it elsewhere. If you live where it’s cold half of the year, I don’t know many brown ales that will be as affordable and that pair up as well as they stand alone. crazydiamond (46), Michigan, USA

Color is a bit light and no noticable aroma (thought I think the smoke in the bar is messing with my senses a bit). Despite the appearance and aroma discrepancies, this is a very nice, enjoyable, beer. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA

Pours a clear amber with an average sized beige head. Nose is mellow with notes of vanilla and pear. Taste is mellow as well, some vanilla, some hazelnut, some toasted malts, and some mild floral hops. Light/medium body, moderate carbonation. Very nice. Cliff (366), Avon Lake, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 14, 2007 Bottle, poured a slighlty hazy amber color with a thin head. Aromas of caramel, sweet malts and a little bit of hoppy citrusness. Sorta bland flavor, not much to go with, caramelly, I don’t taste any of the flavors normally associated w/ a nut brown. This is really more of an amber or red ale. Its not bad, but not really to style. TomDecapolis (3203), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 8, 2007 Pours a translucent brownish amber with an average foamy off white head that left some nice lacing. Aroma of nuts, toasted malts, honey, some citrus and malty sweetness. Flavor of nuts, toasted malts, sweet malt, honey (hazelnut), nice hop bitterness balanced by a great nutty maltiness. Great brown ale! pHunbalanced (7), USA does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 27, 2007 This is practically my house beer this winter. It’s a nice rich brown ale, aptly named with it’s nutty undertones. It’s not a show stopper but a good regular drinking brown ale that pairs well with meat stews and hearty lentil soup. doubelknv3 (568), Illinois, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 17, 2007 Thin and pretty dense head of fine bubbles. Decent carbonation. A bunch of floaters in there. Nice roasty and very nutty aroma. Little acidic aroma with lots of roasted grains and a hint of light coffee. Color is a dark orangish brown. Kind of weak flavor but yet still very tasty. Some caramel malts, light nuts and cereal grains. A little bit of bitterness but not much. Finish is pretty clean and dry. Kind of a black walnut flavor since black walnuts are a litle more bitter than most nuts. A solid brown ale.
