Commercial Description:
100% Wisconsin malt of six different varieties impart the natural toasted color to the bottle conditioned unfiltered ale. Clean hazelnut notes result from these carefully chosen barley malts. Hops from Slovenia, Bavaria and the Pacific Northwest give Fat Squirrel its backbone.

I’m not a big fan of several other New Glarus beers I’ve tried, but in the several instances I’ve tried Fat Squirrel, I feel it is a pretty solid, true-to-style beer that is quite drinkable. Appearance is a dark amber, and is quite attractive with good head retention. Aroma and taste are both of a fairly assertive caramel malt flavor with a hint of hop bitterness balancing things out. Mouthfeel is full-bodied, but not very sticky. I found this beer quite drinkable. Unlike New Glarus’s Yokel and Spotted Cow, I’d recommend this beer.

(Bottle) Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a small beige head. Sweet malty aroma. Medium mouthfeel. Dry caramel notes are dominant, but the beer is balanced. Creamy texture. A very enjoyable brown ale!

Pours a dark brown color with a thin slighlty off-white head. Aroma is slighlty nutty with a bit of roasted malt. Nice chocolatey brown ale with the faintest hint of blackstrap molasses in the finish. A comforting and nostalgic taste in this well made brown ale.

Bottle from Ryan. Thanks. Pours out brown in color without much of a head. Smell is heavy on the roasted malts with some sweet sugars as well. Taste is rich and malty with a nice caramel flavor. Pleasing, easy to drink, and somewhat refreshing. Not a bad beer at all.

Bottle. A amber beer with a tan head. The aroma is nutty with caramel and chocolate, the taste is a bit dry and also with caramel, nuts and chocolate, a bit arteficial, some hop nots. Medium body with a dry dusty finish.

Bottled. An amber beer with a slight hazy under a thin beige head. The aroma is sweeet malty with light notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with stronger notes of caramel, and a dry end. This is not a brown ale.
