Great nut flavor with the proper effervecance. Nose is sweet with out being to overpowering. A beer that all must try at lest once in their beer drinking life. cperry8483 (41), Platteville, Wisconsin, USA

Very nutty flavor but not overpowering, with an excellent texture and mouthfeel. This beer is a great session beer, just very smooth and very tasty. There is a good reason this is one of the best Brown Ales on ratebeer. Outstanding. Boutip (2371), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada

Aroma of nutty malt with caramel is quite enticing. Taste of nutty malt is excellent with some sweet fruit and a creamy texture. Low carbonation with a slightly above average body. I have to admit that I had a lot of worse brown ale and I did enjoy this one. GeneralGao (3057), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 1, 2007 12 oz bottle. Clear copper orange color with thin white head. Aroma is toffee and light brown sugar with an occasional whiff of mustard seed and light sprucy hops. Nutty, malty caramel flavor with some delicate sweetness on the tongue. There is also a nice fruity hop flavor that compliments the malt well. greenhorn1 (460), Mission Viejo, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 23, 2006 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark copper, lighter than I expected for a brown. Small head, with minimal to no lacing. Not much to the aroma, sweet carmel nutty notes. Rich in flavor, however, not very complex. The first flavor I tasted was maple syrup, with mild hints of hazlenut. Nice balance and a good brown Ale. If you really want to taste a awesome bold hazlenut brown, try Rogue’s Hazlenut Brown Nectar. kreepindeth (405), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 20, 2006 One of the best browns I’ve ever had. Creamy mouth-feel with caramel, hazelnut flourishes. Slightly milky finish. Wonderful little beer! orville (160), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA

I was hoping for something punchier form this brewery, but again the h20 dominates. If you want something from New Glarus for the winter season I suggest getting their Uff-da Bock which is way better and bolder. keoki182 (305), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 19, 2006 NG’s Fat Squirrel is a fantastic hazelnut brown. The pleasant aroma always reminds me of the holiday season, with it’s sweet nutty bread scent. This is not a watery beer, it’s really quite thick and rich. It pours with a beautiful brown hue and a tan head. It may not be the most drinkable due to its propensity to fill you up, but this is the beer I use to introduce people to good beer when they tell me they like Newcastle. Both are brown ales, but they’re not much alike. Fat Squirrel is to Newcastle as a $100 bill is to a $5 bill. Both are money, but a smart man/woman will never choose the $5 over the $100. That’s a clumsy analogy but it’s the best I can do to describe this nectar of the gods. Recommended to anyone who can stand a nutty taste in their beer.
