I finally got around to trying this despite it being readily available all the time unlike most New Glarus beers. There is a reason this is one of the most popular releases and that is because it is good. You do not have to be a Ratebeerian to appreciate how well made this is.
Aroma / Appearance - A one-finger white head floated on top of the glass for a long time before it settled down. The amber colored body had no lacing and moderate carbonation. A nice combination of malts, peanuts, burnt cherry pits and light Hershey’s chocolate formed a pleasing nose. While not complex it was good enough to savor it for a while.
Flavor / Palate - The first sip released a hoppy, sweet taste throughout my mouth. As it expanded I picked up hints of honey, malt, Hershey chocolate, butterscotch and peanuts. The aftertaste was hazely before a dry, creamy finish. This is not terribly complex but it is a great session beer. It is also perfect for those times when you want something around that most people will be able to drink regardless of how developed their beer palate is. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Aroma, nutty, toffee, caramel, some spice, and fruit. Flavor, sweet caramel and toffee up front, followed by some floral notes, and a nutty slightly bitter finish. kmweaver (2493), Sebastopol, California, USA

Light reddish-brown appearance; minimal off-white head. Aroma shows some toffee, caramal, and floral notes; reserved but appealing. Light-to-medium mouthfeel, light carbonation, toffee maltiness; chewy, floral hops; seeming more bitter than most brown ales I’ve had. Short, hoppy finish. JJClark (546), Roscoe, Illinois, USA

Aroma of hazelnuts and bread dough. Thin body with the taste of nuts, malt and maybe brown sugar. Leaves a slight malty aftertaste but finishes a little on the bitter side. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 25, 2006 12oz bottle via trade wtih buckybeer! - Thanks Mark! - Pours light brown with a short offwhite head that fades very quickly but leave a little lace. Aromas of lots of nuts, roaste malts, some brown sugar, and caramel. Flavor is quite complex for a brown as well. Good nutty flavor blends with toasted malts, brown sugar, caramel, and a touch of chocolate. Palate is good medium bodied and without much carbonation. Lingering sweet nutty aftertaste. One of the better browns I’ve tried. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 25, 2006 Thanks to buckybeer for this one. Pours deep brown with 1-finger khaki head. Aroma of rich roasty malt, huge nuts (walnut, hazelnut, almond), brown sugar, peaty malt. Dense, complex, nutty palate, with flavors of roast malt, the aforementioned nuts, brown sugar, and cacao. This is a world class nut brown ale, and I cannot believe they didn’t add real nuts to this. If you don’t like this, then you are a real nutsack. beerguy101 (3971), Newark, California, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 18, 2006 This nut brown ale pours an amber red color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is malt, sweet, some nuttiness. There is some smokiness as it warms but not a lot of aroma in this one. A medium bodied brown ale. Malts are caramel and nutty. Some cantaloupe and orange flavors as well. Hops are floral and earthy. Nice balance. Carbonation is somewhat flat. Mild tasting beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. DrunkAsASkunk (847), Lynnwood, Washington, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 18, 2006 This beer pours a clear ruby red color with a very thin white head and little lacing. The aroma is nutty, malty and woody but for the most part its very difficult to pick up anything from the nose. HOLY HAZELNUT BATMAN!!!! Take 1 part hazelnut, 1 part malt and mix the fucker together until thats ALL you can taste and you have a Fat Squirrel. Im not saying this is bad, but it takes a few sips to get used to! Perhaps some orange peel in the finish with heavy carbonation. Canteloupe as well, but mildly confusing?
