There is sort of a sweet candy aroma. Flavor is mildly bitter, a little sour, and totally devoid of anything nutty. I don’t care though because this is actually pretty tasty. Great, smooth mouthfeel. A little nut comes out over time. The body is fairly rich. Loses a point overall because it’s not close at all to a nut brown in my opinion. I bet this is really good on tap....By the end of this bottle I’m thirsting for more. This is probably the best "brown ale" I’ve had though it’s not very typical. tjthresh (1778), Greenfield, Indiana, USA

Creamy khaki head that lasts a while. Mostly toasted nuttyness, with some toffeish notes in the aroma. Tastes toasty, nutty, lightly bitter. Not much hop presents beyond that, as it should be. Feels very nice in the mouth. Fuller bodied. Round. Sweetness hangs on for a bit. Enjoyable enough. Thanks Blake. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 6, 2006 I would like to age this unfiltered gem of a beer. Sent from the Cellar of Gondor. More nutty than many Browns, and by this I mean there is an underlying sweetness to add to the distinctive nut aromas. I think the hoppiness (spices, flowery tips of spices like a muted and petaly pepper) of this makes it a little thin on the palate. There’s some iron in the flavors, too. Interesting mix. A good beer, but on the nuttier brown side, just so ya know. deadguy (37), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Nose of fresh sweet bread. Red amber body with a thin white head with light lacing. Initial taste is malts with hints of roasted nuts and a nice crisp, sharp hop taste - Amazing crispness for a brown ale. Nice balance of malts and hops. After taste is a nice subtle hazlenut. antisnobJP (275), St. Michael, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 24, 2006 Bottle. Chestnut colored with a small finely bubbled off white head.
Smells like...well.. roasted nuts, of course. Sorry for not being more creative. Slight hop note in nose, but no fruitiness. Tastes so much like there is hazelnut extract in there somewhere, but there isn’t. Amazing what quality toasted malts can do. Just a slight hint of fruitiness in the flavor. Slight sweetness doesn’t linger past the dry roast finish. Good hop balance. Good stuff. LePoopie (151), Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 22, 2006 Nice nutty aroma. Decent brown color with an off-white head. Has a wonderful nutty flavor to it. Decent body and carbonation. Overall, this is a good ale. qdog (201), Cleveland, Mississippi, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 21, 2006 Bottle, amber in color, small head with minimal lacing, nice aroma of roasted malt, follows through in the taste. malachi (62), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Jan 14, 2006 Golden amber pour. Lively carbonation. Slight walnut/hop mix aroma. Smooth nutty flavor, but a burned/roasted nut finish grows. No real strong hop presence. Probably woudn’t have again, but a good drinkable ale.
