Commercial Description:
100% Wisconsin malt of six different varieties impart the natural toasted color to the bottle conditioned unfiltered ale. Clean hazelnut notes result from these carefully chosen barley malts. Hops from Slovenia, Bavaria and the Pacific Northwest give Fat Squirrel its backbone.

Bright copper pour with a small skim of light tan head that mostly fades away. Clean, lightly toasty carmel aroma, earthy mild hops, just a hint of butterscotch; simple, but rather nice. Nice nutty carmal flavors. Not overly sweet, though there is a bit of sweetness in the finish. Clean palate. Apart from their mind-blowing fruit beers, one of my favorites from New Glarus, and the nicest American-made brown I’ve tasted. Understated, but full flavored and well balanced. I’m wishing I picked up a six of this, instead of just a single. Ah well. Next time I get to WI.

Unusually huge head for the style. Hazelnut undertones...a nice change. Generally a pretty good brown...but that might be damning with faint praise!

I have tried a number of nutty beers but this one tops them all! If this is on tap at a bar or restaruant, I always ask for it! I love it served real cold (which I typically don’t like) and in a tall glass! Give me more please!

From the bottle this pours a light & clear nutty brown with a short white head. It’s got a roasted barley smell with some nuts and some earthy hopping. Medium-to-light bodied, it has a sweet caramel flavor with some roasted malt, nuts, and a light hop bitterness. Not earth-shaking, but a decent enough drink.

On tap at the Hotel Trempleau. Brown with a white head. Strong toasted nut aroma and flavor. Rich, sweet, and strong. Color is the darkest edge of amber to brown.

Pours a clear light brown with a small white head that quickly diminshes. The smell gives off a caramel sweet scent that is reminiscent of a candy bar. Flavor has a nutty aftertaste but in between there is a sweet caramel nut flavor. I don’t think I could think of a better name for this brew.

Pours a deep clear amber w/ a frothy, sticky head. Aroma is nutty and chocolaty. Flavor is chocolate cookie with some earthy hops. Med. body. Clean ferment. Med-low bitterness.

Sampled from a bottle. It pours to a thick white head that disapates fairly quickly to a rocky patchy slick. So-so lacing atop the brown body. The aroma has TONS of concentrated roasted hazelnut aroma. Light hint of burnt caramel. Perhaps a bit too roasted nuttiness for my tastes. It smells good but is overpowering. The flavor is different than I would have expected given the aroma. Lightly chocolatey, hugely nutty. Grilled sourdough bread. Dry roastiness. Not too shabby, but I’m still not a big brown ale fan. I’d have to say, however, that this is well done. Fairly complex. I definitely get the Bavarian hops in the flavor. The palate is smooth, creamy, a touch of dryness. Worth trying...
