I’m thinking that this one is more like an American Strong Ale or simply a pale ale than a full-blown IPA, but this may be due to all of the Imperial IPA’s I’ve had of late. Dark copper body with a small frothy head. The finish is strangely somewhat metallic, and there is a hint of Lipton tea in the flavor. I think its the English hops, that I’m not too big on. Refreshing and slighlty sweet and generally bitter finish. A decent beer overall. Dhrjericho (66), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 21, 2006 Pours a brownish amber color. Aroma of hops with notes of sweet nuttiness. The flavor is bitter with tasty hops with a strong nut flavor. Nice IPA. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 20, 2006 2006 bottle from StewardofGondor, consumed on 4/18/06 Deep, burnished copper-amber, with a touch of light auburn. Medium-sized bubbles rise methodically to form an off-white head that is mostly well-retained with light lacing. At first, a spicy, subtle nose of dusty, peppery, cannabis-like EKGs. Almost a chinook-like spiciness as well, though not as strong as that would be. Pure citrus is lightly apparent as well, a fresh cascade-like crispness of oranges. Malts are fairly dry and kept behind the hops, allowing only a light graham cracker note and some creamy caramel through. Bit of dry toastiness. Fairly weak in strength, even when warm, is the biggest drawback. Light herbal hops and dusty, peppery hay notes as well, with pale malts and almost a munich-like sourness (very short). Everything is quite attenuated. Lean caramel, mostly touches of sourdough and lemon-orange as the flavor progresses. Almost light on hops but the dry, medium body helps mitigate that, somewhat. Round mouthfeel actually seems to hinder the crispness of the presentation, but taken as more of an English IPA, it works. Not overdone, though that might be a large understatement, but it depends what you’re looking for. No alcohol, medium light bitterness from hops. jimstrassburg (57), Germantown, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 6, 2006 I love IPA’s so my ratings always seem a bit high on them. Whatever. This was a tasty one from New Glarus that I picked up at some cheese shack on the outskirts of Madison, WI. I just happened to be there, I didn’t make a special trip (I’m sure I can find this much closer, I just hadn’t had it before). Anyhow, a solit IPA, quite hoppy (not a misnomer) with citrus hopps and a nice bite on the tounge. I had it yesterday so that’s all I can remember (especially after that Harvest Calvados I just downed). OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 26, 2006 12oz bottle via trade with DavidP - Thanks David - Pours amber with a nice offwhite creamy head that stayed very well and laced the sides of the glass. Nice hoppy grapefruit and grass aroma with some of the caramel malts peeking through as well. Flavor is a very well balanced citrus hop flavor along with nice sweet caramel malts. Quite balanced and creamy on the palate for an IPA. I really enjoyed this one.. jimbowood (983), Athens, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 24, 2006 Caramel + grass. The other raters said it all. Good, but not great. Possibly too much grassy hop flavor. More malt and citrus/pine hop flavors would make this an excellent beer, Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 15, 2006 I don’t know what it is about this beer but I swear to god i’ve had something exactly like it. It has a distinctively caramel aroma and flavor. It has a kind of fart aroma that reminds of Hopdevil. That’s it! Up front it’s not that bitter but the finish stays bitter. Another exceptional and unique beer from New Glarus. JohnnyOS (646), Golden, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 4, 2006 Pours orangish amber with a good sized white head. Strong aroma of piney hops and citrus with some sweet malt accents. Flavor follows aroma, but also introduces a slight bitterness.
