Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Nov 16, 2008 Pours reddish brwon with a thin tan head. Smells of fruit, caramel, some sugary hints. Tastwes sweet and malty with some rosey hints on the finish. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 11, 2008 The beer pours dark and cloudy. decent sized head. has an aroma of fruit, apples, cranberries and Wisc. cheese. It finishes off dry with a little bit of nuttiness. badbeer (432), Iowa, USA Dec 23, 2007 Beer pours a deep dark brown, about a half of an inch head, with solid lacing. Smell, hints of chocolate and coffee. Taste has a decent coffee presence with a little chocolate as well as water. Decent carbonation wise, but a little too watery. Good drinkability, probably wouldn’t have more than a couple however. truebluehes (104), Tipton, Iowa, USA Sep 19, 2007 Bottle. Lighter brown ale with small head, nutty aroma with slight malts. Taste is malty and finishes fairly sweet and dry. Thin on the palate. prosqtor (408), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Aug 5, 2007 Traditional style bier. Very dark in color, with a smoky aroma but surprisingly light taste, with a citrus note. I only wish the big breweries would make a dunkel/amber that tasted like this so people wouldn’t think "it’s a dark beer, it must be heavy." From a bottle, and from the tap. hopdog (5527), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 28, 2007 12oz bottle. Poured a deep mahogany color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of toasted malts, caramel, and maybe some very light citrus. Tastes of caramel and kinda nutty. Thin body. Nothing really stood out either good or bad. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Jan 21, 2007 Pours a murky brown color, inititally (but briefly) topped by half an inch of loosely packed white foam. No head retention, no lacing. Mildly sweet aroma, nothing special.
It has flavor, but subdued. Almost watered down. You ever had Koolaid that was made with too much water? All the elements of the flavor were there, but in bad proportion. That’s what this beer was like. The maltiness was watered down chocolate and grain. There was a fruity tang that was watered down and a bit musty. There was generic hop presence that was a walk on the mild side. Light body, llight carbonation. dhlesq (233), Thousand Oaks, California, USA Nov 20, 2006 Aroma of grain over light noble hops, with some caramel or toffee notes. Appears a dark ruddy mahogany color with no effervescence or head to speak of. Flavor is bland, but with some vienna-style qualities. palate is crisp and light, though watery. Overall, a very poor offering from an otherwise stellar producer.
