| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Feb 18, 2004 Medium brown in color, this beer is rather murky though it does have a nice beige head with good retention. Aroma is fairly appealing with some good maltiness and a little dust. Flavor is just kinda there. Nothing stands out. Decent bit of malt sweetness. Little bit of hops and some dryness in the finish. Decent session ale. Alcoholist (570), Peoria, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 19, 2004 Dark brown ale with minimal head. A full aroma of malt and earth. Malty sweet flavor evolving to a darker coffee aftertaste. Well rounded with a good mouthfeel, a bit thinner than the aroma would suggest. jdog76 (85), madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 16, 2004 Updated: Feb 9, 2004A smooth beer. Lacks a bit of taste and is somewhat watery. Wouldn't complain if I have to drink it but I've had better muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 1, 2004 Bottled. Dark mahogany, thick medium head. Stunning gingerbread-molasses nose, closest thing to a cookie that I've ever smelled in a beer. Unfortunately the flavor is a bit flatter and weaker, with the cookie element strong, a bit of prune, little hops though that's to be expected. Good, but not up to the promise of the aroma. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 29, 2003 Medium brown color, small white head that left a slight lace behind.Malty, sweet aroma with a nice hop presence, light caramel and maybe toffee as well.Nice taste of roasted malt, caramel and slightly sweet with a mellow light hop presence at best. The after taste is caramel and just a very faint touch of sweet chocolate. The body seems to be a little weak and watery in the feel. This is a nice smooth drinking brew that would do nicely in the fall. djmcfar (64), Ixonia, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 5/5 | 12/20 | Nov 7, 2003 earthen type aroma, one inch head diminishes quickly, heavy brown color with a tinge of amber (had to hold it up to the light because it is do dark...)pleasant malty flavor - nice palate - creamy finish - nothing bad to say about it, but not very distinctive compared to other New Glarus brews Ive tried - overall good brew - ABV not shown... Id guess around 5.0 (possibly lower) JMerritt (1318), Macomb, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Oct 20, 2003 Brown-red in color. Tan head is initially large, but totally drops after a few seconds. Caramel aroma has hints of roasted malt and hops at the tail end. Very sweet malt flavor, bordering on cloying. Roasted malt finish is very clean. Smooth on the palate with very low carbonation. A tad one-dimensional, but good nonetheless. Probably my last new New Glarus, as they no longer ship to Illinois...
