Commercial Description:
This dark ale is a hearty and satisfying reward for those of us who embrace the frozen tundra. Uncut oatmeal fresh from Chilton, Wisconsin gives this Stout a "sink into it" smoothness that slides you into its depth. Handcrafted English Chocolate malt and Wisconsin Victory malt combine to balance this robust ale. Expect this ale to pour a luxurious rich head over a rich black ruby body. The powerful malt bouquet will greet you as you tip this silky smoothness from your glass. Our Oatmeal Stout is handcrafted in the time-honored traditions. Serve just above room temperature and relax -- road construction season will soon return.

(bottle thanks OSLO) Pours out a dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma is strong of smoke, salt, and upon warming a brief hint of chocolate appears after the smoke and salt. This honestly smells very very similar to Norwegian Wood, so maybe there’s juniper in there as well? The smoke and saltiness settle down as the beer warms and an aroma of roasted coffee and cocoa greet the nose. Good complexity displayed. Taste is pretty standard with some roasted malt, salt, and a nice bittersweet chocolate taste that lingers on quite nicely through the finish. The finish is also really dry and left me pretty thirsty (maybe from the saltiness?) The mouthfeel is medium, but could really stand to be thicker, and is fairly smooth.

[Bottle] Pours brown with a small tan head. Aroma is a very deep, almost charred malt with smoke and a bit of cocoa. Taste is fairly sweet up front, then the very roasted malt kicks in with some chocolate and a hint of coffee evident as well. Medium-thin mouthfeel with a long, dry finish. I wasn’t crazy about this beer to begin with, but as I drank it began to grow on me. Not a bad sweet stout at all.

Pour is dark black with a thick creamy tan head. Aroma is of smoke, malt, and light coffee. The taste is very well balanced and delicious. Flavors include, smoke, wood, caramel, light coffee, good malt, and a bit of chocolate. Again, very well balanced. This was real good. Will buy again.

Tasted 3/31/08. 12oz bottle. Pitch and dark hued. Moldy beige head. Aromas of coffee toast and toffee. Medium bodied and dry. Nice sweet and bitter juxtaposition. Flavors of brownies and dark chocolate. Sticky finish.

Dark, but you can see a little light sneak through. The head is surprisingly light, a very light tan, and it reduces to a nice film across the top. Smell is pretty roasty with a little alcohol warmth, and some coffee notes. Mouthfeel is a little thinner than I expected. The taste is good but nothing spectacular, roasted flavor and a little bit of coffee, maybe a hint of chocolate, (but just a hint)

Bottle pours dark brown with a creamy off white clingy head that paints some nice lace. The aroma is oatmeal, roasted, chocolate, and coffee. The flavor imparts mostly an oats, chocolate, and coffee flavor - throw in some lactic notes in the finish. It also has a definite lingering roasted presence. The palate is ultra smooth and lively (must be fresh). I like this and it seems to live up to the style quite well. Not a bad effort from my friends in Sconnie. And yes, road construction season is just around the corner. I know I always tend to note how much better it is as it warms, so here I go again. As the bottle states, drink at or above room temperature. It is awesome.

I guess this is another "I don’t get the hype" New Glarus beer. An Ok stout with some rough oats, bitter sweet chocolate and hints of coffee.

Picked up a six-pack from Bob McFarland’s Liquors in McFarland, Wisconsin. Pours a dark cola brown brew with a thick and lumpy beige head that has some excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of toasted dark malt, dark chocolate, a little vanilla and some flowery hops. Taste is medium to full bodied, light carbonation with flavors of toasted dark malt, chocolate a touch of apple and roasted nuts. Finish is slightly metallic with some toasted dark malt aftertaste.
