Commercial Description:
This dark ale is a hearty and satisfying reward for those of us who embrace the frozen tundra. Uncut oatmeal fresh from Chilton, Wisconsin gives this Stout a "sink into it" smoothness that slides you into its depth. Handcrafted English Chocolate malt and Wisconsin Victory malt combine to balance this robust ale. Expect this ale to pour a luxurious rich head over a rich black ruby body. The powerful malt bouquet will greet you as you tip this silky smoothness from your glass. Our Oatmeal Stout is handcrafted in the time-honored traditions. Serve just above room temperature and relax -- road construction season will soon return.

Road Slush is here! Not going to miss it this time! Pours a dark red-brown color, with no head. Aroma is awesome......rich coffee beans, dark chocolate. As it warms up you can smell the rich oatmeal within. Taste is very robust - Coffee, dark chocolate, some nuttiness, with a hoppy and almost sour finish.

Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma of toasted to burnt malt, coffee, milk chocolate. TAste is very balanced, nice roasted malt, some vanilla and a good hop bite. A little thin and watery. Overall very good.

Black with a thin but silky head. Burnt aroma with some toasted malt and coffee notes. Big fat body. Quite sweet but tempered by hop flavor and bitterness and acrid black malt. Very flavorful and robust for the strength.

Poured a blackish red color with large foaming head. Smelled like chocolate and roasted nuts. Tasted like roasted almonds covered in chocolate. Overall a damn fine stout from New Glarus and would buy again!!

Uncut outmeal creates a super smooth stout. Dark as night with plenty of carbonation. Not over bearing heavy. Remind me a bit of 8 ball stout but not as tight.

Damn fine brew! Poured with a nice fine foamy head and plenty of lace. Rich stout aroma. Dark garnet color, almost opaque. Not overly sweet - very well balanced actually. Velvety texture. Quite drinkable, even to say perhaps a session beer. Yum! Having this at Bodega Brew Pub downtown La Crosse, Wis.

12 oz bottle. Initial pour looks like black coffee, but examination when held up to light reveals a majestic blood-and-liquorice interplay. The appearance is the strong suit of this beer, which doesn’t mean a great deal to a product which ultimately goes in your mouth. Thankfully, it’s not bad once you get it there. The bitter cocoa is first to the front, but it’s relatively smooth on the tongue thanks to the oatmeal flavors. I have served this to people who do not drink "dark beer" and they found it tolerable, which speaks to the smooth finish. Not the most complex stout out there, but it’s good and drinkable. Take the bottle’s advice and don’t drink it cold.

Pours dark mahogany brown. A medium, frothy, tan colored head settles to a thin patch with an asymmetrical, bubbly rim. Minimal random spots and skinny snakes of lacing cling to the glass. The aroma is sweet and very chocolaty, with a good bit of background caramel and some molasses. The flavor isn’t nearly as impressive, as the dark chocolate notes don’t define themselves nearly as well as they did on the nose. Things fall a bit flat in the mouth, as oatmeal seems to smooth out the flavor a bit too much, to the point where they run together. The mouthfeel is substantial, smooth, and pleasing, though it remains a bit sticky well after the swallow. Overall, a solid brew from a style I’m not crazy about, but one that falls short of the fantastic precedent that New Glarus has set.
