Commercial Description:
This dark ale is a hearty and satisfying reward for those of us who embrace the frozen tundra. Uncut oatmeal fresh from Chilton, Wisconsin gives this Stout a "sink into it" smoothness that slides you into its depth. Handcrafted English Chocolate malt and Wisconsin Victory malt combine to balance this robust ale. Expect this ale to pour a luxurious rich head over a rich black ruby body. The powerful malt bouquet will greet you as you tip this silky smoothness from your glass. Our Oatmeal Stout is handcrafted in the time-honored traditions. Serve just above room temperature and relax -- road construction season will soon return.

12oz bottle courtesy of Goldtwins. Pours pitch black with a thin tan head. Sweet aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts. More of the same for the flavor but the coffee presence is more pronounced, some ash. Medium/Thin mouthfeel with light carbonation. Very easy to drink. Finishes slightly sweet and bitter. A pretty good stout.

12 oz. bottle via trade with CaptainCougar - Pours a dark brown color with a 1/2 finger thick tan head which faded pretty quick. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor is mainly roasted malt. Very dry and thin on the palate. Bitterness is quite noticeable. Light to medium body. Was hoping for a little more, but worth a try. Thanks Tom.

#984, Bottle at the Champaign-Urbana private tasting held at Radio Maria. Thanks to Phillip. Darker with no real head on the pour. Nose is malty and mostly oatmeal kind of roasteness. Not bitter but kind of thin. Taste just about the same.

I managed to drink one bottle of this before my friend’s worthless roommates drank the rest when I wasn’t looking. Bastards. Anyway, this wasn’t too bad, but there are better options when it comes to stouts. On the sweet side, less hops that I’d expected, but not an unpleasant surprise. Very little carbonation and best served slightly chilled (I got some nasty tastes in the back of my mouth when I drank it at room temp). Yet another decent beer from NG!

12 oz bottle. Dark cola with hints of a tan head. Good ’n Plenty, fudge and grape juice. Tangy carb, a little thin. Mild stout with apple. Dusty plums, brown sugar, coffee & cream. Smooth oatmeal body. Taste fades quickly.

Bottle (another great beer from JK). Sweet chocolate and oatmeal malt with hint of astrigency. Pitch black with thin film of a head. Chocolate toffee and coffee malt flavor - high acidity. Would be just about perfect with a bit stronger taste.

A little let down on this one and I even had it on tap at a tasting at the blessing of the bock. Dark color, but not as opaque as a more traditional stout. Thick chocolate looking head that produces a nice lacing in my glass. Smells lightly hopped with a little grass and semi sweet chocolate. Bland.....blah. Light palate, but poor mouthfeel. Some lemon rind behind a bitter coccoa powder. Very basic and a bit too boring for such a great company.

12 oz bottle via CaptainCougar (thanks!). Pours a deep dark brown/almost black with ruby highlights and a large tan head. Nice aroma of mocha, chocolate, toffee. Taste starts with some sweet vanilla and molasses and ends with a nice bittersweet (mostly sweet) chocolate with some espresso and licorice in the background. Medium carbanation. Thin/medium body. Silky mouthfeel. Very easy drinking and balanced. Wish i had another one!
