Commercial Description:
This dark ale is a hearty and satisfying reward for those of us who embrace the frozen tundra. Uncut oatmeal fresh from Chilton, Wisconsin gives this Stout a "sink into it" smoothness that slides you into its depth. Handcrafted English Chocolate malt and Wisconsin Victory malt combine to balance this robust ale. Expect this ale to pour a luxurious rich head over a rich black ruby body. The powerful malt bouquet will greet you as you tip this silky smoothness from your glass. Our Oatmeal Stout is handcrafted in the time-honored traditions. Serve just above room temperature and relax -- road construction season will soon return.

Quite a smooth and tasty milk stout - the oatmeal is quite apparent, and the light coffee flavor lends itself very well to the heavy dose of cream sweetness - gently hopped, just enough to keep the sweetness from becoming too much - quite nice.

Lightly hopped and strong roasted malts, with hints of vanilla in the aroma. Some coffee and cream present, and a taste of chocolate. Pleasant and easy to drink. I didn’t know what to expect, since I’ve been disappointed with their wheat beers, but this one is a pleasant surprise. Very smooth, sweet finish, with a nice lingering dose of coffee.

12 oz bottle, via JCapriotti. Pours a thin looking black body under a small brown fleeting head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt with a little coffee and dry yeastiness. Flavor is a little thin and chalky with an astringent burnt malt finish. Some roast and black patant malt up front. Mouthfeel is fairly thin with a little too much carbonation. Becames a little oily in texture towards the tail end of the finish. An OK beer, and middle of the road at best for New Glarus.

Pours pitch black, virtually no head. Not bad but not excellent, mainly coffee flavor but it’s not very strong and actually seems thin and watery, some slight hops and dark chocolate I guess but you really have to look for it. It’s not a bad beer and I really like drinking it, very smooth and very easy to drink, I was just looking for more from New Glarus on this. It’s just a normal stout nothing special, still good.

It seems like they repackaged their coffee stout. This beer is all about coffee. There is some chocolate as well. It is on the thick side and has a thick, lacing head as well. Flavor is mostly coffee, light malt, and overall dry. Its good, but I more dry than sweet. -----After a year aging at room temp, this beer has picked up a fuller palate. The coffee and chocolate flavors have blended nicely.

Sometimes my expectations are too high and it just leads to disappointment that could be avoided if I went into a sample more objectively. So it was with this brew. Visually impressive with a black, opaque body and a frothy tan head. The aroma was of mixing a chocolate malt with dark roasted coffee with faint hops notes and caramel hints. Palate was smooth and creamy but a bit thin. The flavor began sweetly and turned dry at the finish, with the mocha touches. An very good drink.

You can actually smell the oats in this dark brown brew along with sweet, roasted malts and some weak coffee. The coffee becomes more pronounced in the flavor and a dab of milk chocolate is added, but the taste is dominated by the lightly roasted, thick malt sweetness and a mildly dry finish. Not bad.

Bottle courtesy of JCapriotti. Aroma was roasted malts a tinge of oatmeal. Poured a deep dark brown with a thin head. Flavor was ok, roast malts were almost too roasted into burnt. I detected a bitter coffee too. Palate was good nice rich texture. Overall it was ok.
