Fruity aroma with a hint of coffee as well as toast and caramel. Nice, rich caramel flavor with dark fruits, toast, and an earthy hops finish. Thin/medium body. Another New Glarus beer that impresses with subtlety rather than an over-the-top grain bill or excessive hopping. Would that other microbrewers would take note. Thanks Matt (MrFacto) for the bottle! 11026 (1779), Alabama, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 5, 2005 Bottle from Styles. Really a nice amber ale, something I thought would never happen. Deep ruby brown colored. Crystal clear. Little beige head is slow to form and then dissipates quickly. Fruity and estery aroma. Smooth mouthfeel. Tasty malts, this almost give off whiskey-like flavors. Nice hop finish. Well done, one of the only amber ales that I would seek again. IndianaRed (1560), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 1, 2005 Bottle Pours a clear dark brown with a snall off white head. Lacing is heavy and persistant. Woody, dark malt aromas. Flavors are very earthy and warm. Soft mellow woody notes. The ABV tastes a bit hight than it is. Easy on the hops here but there is a slight bitterness at the end. Quite tasty.
Thanks goes out to MrFacto for this one. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA

Roasted malt flavor is crisp and clean with slight hop flavor in finish. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 22, 2004 12 oz bottle sampled while typing this in my parents’ family room on their antiquated computer...dark cherry-walnut color, smallish decaying head...malty, sugary nose with just a touch of BBQ smokiness maybe...smooth, fairly sweet and simple malty body starts out quite boring, but some nice finishing acidic, herbal hop tones give it enough kick to make it pleasant, and the full, medium-carbonated body does it justice. Nothing really special, but certainly bespeaks NG’s typical quality and attention. zathrus13 (1306), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 20, 2004 Pours redish amber. Aromas are sweet malt, brown sugar, and dark fruit.Flavors are malt (not as sweet as the aroma would lead you to believe) and hops. Body is on the light side, but it works for this beer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 15, 2004 This is a good looking pour. Clear, reddish brown with a two finger off white head, it stands out nicely in the glass. Malty sweetness up front with a slightly hoppy finish make this an excellent session beer.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 9, 2004 Bottle pours dark amber, deep red actually, mediocre off-white fizzly head, spotty lacing, with very light carbonation. Sugary malt aroma, fairly sweet. Slight hint of fruit. Smooth malt taste, semi-sweet, slightly viscous coating the mouth. Good body, medium mouthfeel. Finishes clean, semi-sweet malt profile. A solid Red! Thanks goes out to MrFacto for the trade!
